Let me bring back some funny moments and anegdotes of ORIGINS 2016.
Believe me, there were some I witnessed myself or heard about.
If any of the participants remember any other story - please share them with the community.
#1. The Happy Jammer.
It was the first
WGF scenario I played on Thursday. Being a member of American squad I was flying one of the beautiful Nieuport 28s against a German Jasta of D.VII. After one of the first passes I draw a jam card. OK, that happens - 3 maneuvers will pass quickly. However, I tried to stay on target anyway and was succesful. Then
! Another jam. Well... I did not give up, staying healthy, still enemies in my gun sight, hammering the gun, three turns. Now
the third jam! Arghhh! Next three turns (9 total), slightly going mad, drawing some 0 or 1s, no problem. Now
! FOURTH JAM! Guys at the table started laughing
12 consecutive turns with jammed guns! Happy at last, always on tail of the enemy,
and the enemy spirals down to earth. Ufff! At the end of the day I scored one kill and stayed alive not being shot down, surviving the onslaught.
The funniest thing was I was able to stay right behind one enemy or the other, hammering the guns to unjam them. Epic!
#2. Yeah, the game is damn historically accurate.
Cappy Tom was gamemastering a WGS scenario. One of the younger players was a complete newbie.
Tom was really helpful, announced we would help the newbies to deal with the damage counters they receive. So when this newbie got shot at with three B counters and draw them from the bag, Tom approached te newbie player and kindly asked to show him the three counters just drawn.
Tom is examining the damage counters one by one:
- "This is the smoke. You trail the smoke."
- "Yeah, the second one: this is the fire. Your plane is on fire now."
- "And this one is explosion. You are exploding."
I almost LMHO when I heard the story.
