A solo game based on Carl's WGF IF03 - To Catch a Caproni -
The A-H aircraft controlled by AI:
Offizierstellvertreter Reinhold Jörke in the Brumowski D.III,
Leutnant Friedrich Sternberg in the other D.III
A Caproni Ca3 of 95 Sqn, controlled by me, making a run for home having joined an Italian raid that dropped bombs on Austro-Hungarian artillery and infantry positions near Vojscica.
The Albatrii spot their prey - easy meat..?
Unexpectedly the Caproni turns into them and the gunners open up, though little damage is done initially..Sternberg's machine spews smoke
Straightening out the Caproni gunners both go to work at close range.. Now Sternberg's engine is damaged and it's Jörke's machine that spews smoke - he scores a solid hit on the giant but his guns then jam...
The Caproni gunners fail to capitalise, the front gun jams up and the rear gunner does no damage... thrown off by the turn perhaps ?
The rear gunner cannot miss the Albatros looming large on their tail and his rounds find their mark again clipping Jörke even as the gun stammers to silence with a jam
Sterberg heads for the barn trailing smoke and vapour
Jörke, his guns finally cleared has kept on the tail of the beast and unleashes a telling blow on the now defenceless bomber...
(Played the 'no explosion' rule so 50% damage)
His next burst rips through the machine and downs the front gunner....
It is already too much for the Caproni and it rolls gently to port and spirals toward the earth..
The Butchers Tally:
Sternberg RTB / 0 Kills
Bottom row are all +1
Jörke RTB / WIA / 1 Kill
Bottom row are all +1
Ca3 SD-ET / 0 kills
Bottom row are all +1
This was a surprisingly quick game to play, I utilised the OTT rules, my solo charts and Alt rules as that's what I'm used to and it turned out pretty good I thought. I hope you think I did it justice and I hope you all have a go at it yourselves.
Thanks Carl
