    Default AAR--B17 vs. 3 Zeros

Thursday afternoon action against the "General".

The cry was heard over the radio, Bandits 11 o'clock and coming fast. I looked that direction and saw 3 planes trying to intersect our path from my left and ahead of us. I turned slightly to my left to take the closest bandit head on and give as many of the guys a shot as possible. The nose, right cheek, and dorsal guns all opened up with withering results.
As the bandit came around our right side I saw the meatball of the Imperial Japanese Navy on the planes and the unmistakable details of the A6M2 Reisen " Zeke" or the Zero.
Seeing a Zero up close and personal was not what I was wishing today, but here we were, the guys trying to defend us and I was trying to get us safely to the target.
The forward guns fell silent as all three planes flashed by and the chatter began in the aft section of the plane.
Scratch one Bandit, came the call from the tail gunner. We had our first kill as a group. Hopefully we would make it home safely to celebrate. Got him rang out again in my headset. Did her go down I asked. Nope he's still up but limping, I saw a puff of smoke from the engine compartment.
Where is the third one? He is some distance away and with the second one. OK Gentlemen good work on that first pass. Keep your eyes open for more.

    Notes:
    B17F 0 Dmg 1 Kill

    Zeros
    One SD, over water
    Two engine Dmg 11 Dmg
    Three 0 Dmg

Zeros got 2 shots off on the initial pass, I drew 4 zeros for Dmg.

    Round 2
    Scenario: 7, Dec 1941

B17 Flying into Hawaii is met by three Japanese Zeros. Can the B17 survive and land?
    Special rules:
The B17 cannot fire any weapons, none were installed.
Can use any maneuver card in your deck at slow speed only.
Will only have a crew of 4.

    Aboard the lead B17

    Hey Cap!

    Yeah.

I just barely had a Honolulu station and was going to put it on the speakers but now it disappeared and all I have is static.

See if you can find another one for us to home in on.

    I'm trying.

Cap! That looks like a pretty bad storm at about 11 o'clock on the horizon.

It must have blown up suddenly, because we were supposed to have clear weather all the way to Pearl today.

Cap! That storm is approximately where we need to go.

Ok. Make sure everything is secure in case we get caught in it.

Flight leader to all birds. There seems to be a storm on the horizon in the general direction we need to head. Make sure you have everything secure in case it gets rough.

    30 minutes later

    Radio?

    Yes, sir!

Have you acquired another radio station for us yet?

    No sir, everything is silent.

    OK.

Sir, are they having a drill today? If you look to our right about 1 o'clock it looks like a bunch of planes coming In from the North.

Radio, do you hear any chatter on any channel?

    Nothing so far sir.

Cap, it looks like a group of planes are approaching from our 11 o'clock.

Hmm, I guess they sent an escort for us because of all the activity ahead.

Cap, did that first plane just fire at us?

Crew fasten yourselves in we are under attack.
Flight leader to all birds, we are under attack I repeat we have just been shot at by the Japanese. I know we are all low on fuel so do your best and land at any possible safe place you can. Good Luck you are on your own.

The Zeroz came across the nose of our plane and broke right, trying to hit us as they went. Their first pass did significant damage (13 points). They then circled around behind us to get on our tail and then they shot the ++++ out of us, (6 crew, 8).
They stayed pon our tail until by luck a boom card and another 5 points was drawn, giving a total of 55 points of Dmg. Our plane went down in the surf near a beach off Oahu.

The idea for this scenario came about after reading the story behind the mistakes made by the radar crews on 7, Dec 1941.
If you play it good luck.
