Thread: 5 years has passed. I'm buying!

Default 5 years has passed. I'm buying!

A short absence on the Forum last week was not without purpose.
Since my wife and me were able to take some days off, the family went to the island of Crete for a sunny week.
Accidentally I realized May 23rd is my 5th anniversary on the Drome sharing joy of life and gaming with you all, dear chaps!
Moreover, the 100 years anniversary of the Battle of Jutland and the start of the Battle of Verdun have passed right about this very special week.
So with a fantastic reading of Peter Hart's: "The Great War 1914-1918" (read from cover to cover), I am sending you warm greetings from Agios Nikolaos.

Thank you for these 5 years, wishing even more fives to come .

Looks great Andrzej. I was on Crete 3 years ago wargaming in a basement. Really good fun. Unfortunately Jon and Diane no longer run the wargame holidays so no chance of a second visit. Try this for a flavour of what it was like. https://wargamingraft.wordpress.com/...days-at-crete/
During that week I had the most decisive Confederate win ever. Absolutely brilliant ACW game when everything went right for a change.

Andy is it only 5 yrs!! You look the picture of health in that photo , a book and some liquid refreshment is all the brain and body need, unless you are Minotor hunting in which case a ball of string is recommended. Enjoy the sun.

Here's to seeing you again at Doncaster.

I've only had the honour and privilege of sharing four of those five years, Andy.

But, they have been pretty good years.

Thanks for your contributions over the past 5 years Andrzej, much appreciated!

You are in Crete right in the middle of the 75th anniversary of the German invasion. I would imagine they would have some sort of commemoration?

Congrats on achieving Five Years on the Forum my Polish Wingman!
Looks like you are feeling "No Pain" & are most relaxed.

Interestingly I watched a Doco on the Battle for Crete only two nights ago on a DVD.

Anyway to the serious stuff. To the Bar & allow me to return your shout.

Thank you so much dear friends. You are most kind.
Now I am home and can refer to some of your remarks.

    1. The Bleeding Buckeye I enjoyed really very much .
    2. What Carl wrote: yes, this was the exact period of the German invasion - 75 anniversary. And yes, there are places of memory on the island. Two of them are the most interesting and absolutely worth seeing: Commonwealth War Cemetary at Souda Bay and German War Cemetary near Maleme airfield. I visited both of them during our visit on Crete in 2008. They are very moving places. What I found very interesting is the difference in - so called - cemetary architecture styles.
Yes, Crete with all of it's monuments is a place worth paying a visit.
