Herewith, the evidence from tonight's impromptu game.
This was a historical scenario based on real events in the summer of 1917 where several British squadrons were deployed along the Franco-Belgian coast with the objective of intercepting the daylight Gotha raids on London and the south east of England.

Our game saw Sopwith Camels of N0.3 Sqn RNAS (Naval Three) scrambling to attack two German stragglers as they neared the British capital. With the Hun raiders entering the map from a random direction, the defending fighters had a lot of ground to make up and the Gothas were already making their way along the Thames estuary, intent on bombing the East London docks.
The Gothas make a magnificent sight as the approached their target in line astern, running the gauntlet of London's AA batteries - you could almost hear Ride of the Valkyries in the background (especially after John played it on his smart phone
The first raider unleashed it's load causing partial damage to the target but the second for some reason did not release its deadly cargo but turned to attack from a different direction. ). By this time, the plucky British fighters were on the scene launching furious attacks on the enemy bandits. One British pilot got too close however and collided with the tail of the second Gotha, and spilled fuel from a ruptured line set the camel ablaze. A bursting anti aircraft shell had wounded the Gotha's rear gunner and the raider was last seen moving away to the north east, trailing black smoke. Now out of fuel, 3 sqn's remaining aircraft were forced to look for emergency landing fields while the second Hun raider showed a clean pair of heels and headed back across the channel.
This was the first time we had played with the heavy bombers and everyone agreed it was a most enjoyable game.
