A couple of days ago I tried out the app WoG Solo system by Danjel Ricci. This was my first time using it:-
The Chosen – Albatros D.Va flown by P. Baumer (AI) v Sopwith Camel – A.R.Brown (solo player – me!)

Start: Planes on opposite sides of “no mans land” so first three moves for AI plane easy – full steam ahead. I side slipped to the left just before contact, with the intention of turning behind Baumer immediately after. Both planes opened fire:-

Not the outcome I wanted with a damaged engine this early on plus my guns are jammed – well done Mike – good start!
Over with the joystick, hard right followed by a long left hand turn to give me time to unjam my ordance. At this point I start using the WoG app. Baumer flies ahead then turns to follow me. Ha, gotcha buddy!

With guns no longer jammed I catch him in flank. Oh yea? Oh no!!!
Score so far? Not looking good and now I must stall once per turn – what a give away for another player, but will the AI notice?

The next full turn seperates us, so now he's in sector 8 and moving away . Cannot perform an “Immelman” 'cos my last move was a stall and I have to get another stall in during this turn. So hard right and same again, followed by my stall. Hopefully that will bring me back into contact.
wgf 240516 11.jpg Views: 61 Size: 238.6 KB ID: 197580" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" /> wgf 240516 15.jpg Views: 61 Size: 232.9 KB ID: 197577" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />
Dakka dakka dakka dakka edged that one, but only just!
wgf 240516 16.jpg Views: 61 Size: 217.9 KB ID: 197576" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" /> wgf 240516 21.jpg Views: 61 Size: 218.7 KB ID: 197573" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />
Up close and cosy now; time to move! Hard right swing left and stall – another attempt at evasion, but I don't think that matters to the AI controlled Herr Baumer! Left, straight, Immelman. Couldn't possibly have predicted that one. Ha ha!
wgf 240516 22.jpg Views: 61 Size: 194.9 KB ID: 197572" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" /> wgf 240516 25.jpg Views: 61 Size: 216.8 KB ID: 197569" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />
If only I didn't need to stall. Could have flanked him again then. Lot of circling around in this “one on one” type of fighting, but I love the cat and mouse game! Only question here is, “Who is the mouse?”

Dakka dakka dakka dakka; dakka dakka dakka dakka Boom!!! - You can not be serious!!! Now that's what I call “dashed inconvenient”, although believe me, I may be British what, what, but that really isn't what I actually said at the time!!
RIP Mikee baby!

Butcher's Tally:
A R Brown 209 Squadron / EXP NML .
Crash resolution: 2d6 throw = 5 -3 exploded = 2. The pilot died!! I think I'll try a BE2c next time!
P Baumer Jasta 5 / RTB FT / 1 kill / all well.
The app worked without a hitch except that the plane I used was not listed (P Baumer Jasta 5). It wasn't important as I substituted “Jacob's” plane instead. I do not know if the decks are different for each “ace” covered, but I suspect not. Someone please correct me if I am wrong!
It would be good if, one day, other planes could be added, because the app is soooo convenient and saves on paper too. For now, though, I shall just have to print off the charts for other decks as I need them and use dice thows with them.
I used the 2nd Generation Advanced decks designed by Blackronin and based on rules designed by Richard Bradley. I have yet to try the alternatives. Neither did I attempt to use the heading distance and facing controls. They'll have to wait too. Having spent time to make a suitable device from my Weetabix packet, I thought I had better use that instead!
With thanks to Danjel et al
Mike
