So, inspired in part by Richard Schwab's home made clouds in the WWII game at Williamsburg Muster, my lovely bride (pbuh) decided to set to and make some for us. Materials used were batting (for soft toys, pillows etc) from the craft store and bases made from Dollar Tree straws and plastic wine glasses. The effect is quite good, but how do they effect game play?
We use three basic flight levels for our simplified altitude rules, so clouds are assumed to be at level 2 (medium altitude)
You can fly under or over a cloud with no effect
No firing into or out of a cloud.
Flying into a cloud makes you disoriented, therefore discard your next planned maneuver card and draw another at random from your deck, and play this. If it is a climb card, use your model's card and place in on top of the cloud. You could pop out anywhere!
We play tested this rule in tonight's game and it works very well! Clouds don't move in the time frame of our games but you could easily decide a random wind direction and move them one ruler distanc at the start of every turn. What does the esteemed membership of the mess think?
