Default The Kindness of Strangers WW2 Solo Campaign: Chapter 15 – The Eye of the Storm

    - Prague Summer CON Special -

    July 17, 1940

"Where do you think you're going, Joachim?!" "To my plane." "Don't be a fool, you're burning with fever!" "But Kyte! They're coming. We need the entire squadron up there!" "We do. But we haven't it all ready. So we go with what we have. Your section is mauled. Andrzej and Gus are wounded and you are feverish. You'll sit this one down." "I'll take my section and Yellow section. Green..." "They're still not combat ready..." "No. But they will soon if we keep losing planes and pilots like this..." "Good luck Kyte!" "We'll need it... We're entering the eye of the storm my boy..."

"Jawohl! The Spitfires were upon us as soon as we reached the mainland, Hauptmann Zirndorf. They always know where we are..." "Go on!"

"We were well escorted, so we were confident that we would take them down easily..." "Confidence is important mein Freund, but over confidence is stupid..."

"Those Spitfires... They are good..." "Our planes are better! Be more specific." "Jawohl Hauptmann Zirndorf. They came straight at us. Our fighters moved in to intercept. The British were on the fighters... It seemed that way in the beginning..."

"We kept formation. Some of the British pilots spoke Polish..."

"They are scratching the pan for all the pilots they can muster. Good! They must be desperate. Go on!"

    "Yes. Desperate..."

"We endured the first passage quite well. It's always scary when they zoom in firing... But they went for the fighters. Our Heinkel was moving steady to the target..."

"Two of the Spitfires were kept away from the battle. The other three went in, even if they were hit. Our gunners fired and I suppose they hit some of the Spitfires..."

"And then the Spitfires seemed unstoppable... Our fighters seemed unable to shoot them down... They were able to keep them from us... For a while..."

"Two of the Spitfires kept firing at Grubber's Heinkel... The damage was adding up..."

"Then we lost our first fighter..."

"The Spits were taking damage, but they refused to be shot down..."

"We were able to escape the dogfight... But one of the Spitfires kept firing at us... At Grubber's Heinkel."

"We trained all our machine guns at it... But it kept adding damage to the Heinkel..."

"I looked back and I could see it shaking with the bullets raking it..." "Yes... Go on."

"Then one of the Spitfires was put down... But I also saw another of our fighters going down."

"The three remaining one-oh-nines were so entangled with the Spits that they forgot about us..." "They didn't forget." "I'm not complaining... They had a mouth full..."

"Then the Spit fired a long shot against Grubber's Heinkel. It start falling apart..."

"Our gunners kept firing at the Spitfire while we saw the Heinkel start losing altitude..."

"In a quick succession one more Messerchmitts went down and the Spit that was tailing us was taken down by our gunners..."

"Now we were alone and away from the fighters. But I could hear them... I could hear them..."

"The Spits took one more of ours..."

"And that was all I was able to see... I know that our remaining Messerchmitt took another Spit and that they retreated after that... We lost four fighters and one bomber against three Spits..." "But you managed to complete your mission. It was a success!" "Was it?... I wonder... It seems that we're there to take down their fighters... But it seems the other way around..." "Don't question our superior's plans! All will go well. Soon we'll have RAF at their knees!"

"Westminster and Burmashave just landed, Joachim!" "And the others?" "Kyte was shot down but Eris saw him bail out. We calling all airfields to see if they know about him!" "And the others?" "Hampton went down and no one saw a parachute..." "Are they looking for the wreak?" "Yes... No one know nothing about Sailor..."

    The rules of the Scenario
This scenario was specially created to be used in the Prague Summer CON.
It is part of my ongoing semi-solo The Kindness of Strangers Campaign.

The main goal of this scenario was to write a AAR for my ongoing campaign having my friends at the CON playing for my Squadron and the Germans.

    Germans:
5 messerchmitts 109E (Two Veterans and Three Regulars)
2 Heinkels He 111H (Automatically moved)

    British
5 Spitfires (One Ace Two Veterans and Two Regulars)

    The Germans victory conditions are:
At least one of the Heinkel's survive to leave the map on the other side or three Spitfires are down.

    The British victory conditions are:
Take down the Heinkel's and keep at least three Spitfires flying or leaving the map.

The Germans won the scenario... At a cost... Just saying...

The game seen from the outside.

The British pilots: Andrzej, Kuba, Viktor, Michal (the headless guy) and Joaquim

    And now with the head.

    Planning the 1st maneuver.

Father and sons. So cool! Zdeněk, Lukáš and Michal.

The Germans planning. Zdeněk, Lukáš and Martin Junior (he will be an amazing pilot in no time).

The Germans planning again after their first fighter went down... Andrea, Lukáš and Martin Junior.

The British trying to even the odds...

And for a while they thought they could do it...

The elusive German Ace smiling... Martin Senior took me down... Just because I took down his son... C'mon...

Great action Quim, and I did not even realize that I was flying in that one.
Better get me back before I have to head off for Malta!
