Right today my KS TANK, The Great War expansion has arrived, BTW. A solid box with nice WWI tank models and 20 additional scenarios. Ufff...

Barrels, additional (captured and female) British tanks and the Whippets in box are all OK. I even got the wooden card holders. All fitted in the box perfectly.
I LOVE the CC series; moreover I have a neighbor loving it as well. We have played all M'44 scenarios and campaigns in two volumes, all CC Ancients+expansions scenarios, Battle Cry Anniversary ed., now finishing Battleore 2 ed. Dragons expansion. A superb light but deep system.
Now we are preparing for The Great War.

The starter set comes with one of all the cards, so get a few of those and you should be good to go.

I figured that was the case; I assume that the "booster packs" will have all the stuff for that particular tank?

Good to know; I have a starter and a panther on order from my LFGS.
The point on the lack of Tiger and the Comet/Cromwell presence is a valid one. While I can see wanting a British tank (esp. as a CW based company), and those were probably the most capable ones the British made in the war, the fact you have the IS-2 coming out makes the lack of Tiger more glaring. Maybe soon? And if things go well, others as well?

Nope....no more games....just found Wings og Glory to capture my investment bucks.

HMMMMM....I do have a few Flames of War armies,...and some Bolt action units......sigh....Nope....just add to my almost 30K game score on the World of Tanks computer game if I want to push armor.

Any way no time to paint new toys...too far behind in painting commissions for others.

I have seen Tanks in motion at Galactic Models in Derby and was impressed with the game: Good flow with good mechanics and though it was likened to Wings of Glory with tracks on it I wouldn't be so quick to assume that it is. If you have a chance to see what I have seen I would seriously recommend it. Another appealing factor is the way the game although it features it's own mechanics and characteristics can be historically related to Wings of Glory. Giving players an excellent How The Other Half Lived perspective or impression.

Thanks to Rob for the demonstration

OK, a number of us at Origins demoed this game. Many (maybe most) of us who did bought some.
It's a fun game, not much, if any, more complex than WoG (esp. w/ altitude). There is definitely more fun than historical, but a good time anyway.

They are like WoG in this respect: you need the tanks to get the cards to play the game.
That said, if you buy one of each (plus starter), then you can add multiple tanks.
With micro-armor, probably not worth the effort.

I walked by/over to this booth several times at Origins, and I've looked at the product several times on line since I've been back - I imagine I will succumb to the pull here sometime this summer. It really does look like a nice little game. And I've always loved tanks...

    All the best,
    Matt

I am in the process of assembling mine. The detail is fantastic but the assembly directions are not the best. I screwed up on the Jagdpanther, make sure you glue in the gun attachment before gluing the main body.
Have not played yet but the assembly process is keeping me busy.

I finally got mine out of the luggage from Origins; thinking about some assembly the next couple of days (going back to work Thursday )

Andy I don't know if I should thank you or curse you (kidding) for talking about Commands and Colors. After seeing your pictures playing I went out an bought all the Ancients and then the Napoleonic, Russian and Austrian expansions. I have to check out this TANK game AT HISTORICON next month. BTW did you know that Days of Wonder has an online version of Mem 44? I do a lot of solo play. I have asked before that since Mem 44 is a card based game and Wings is also someone should come up with an online version. Would be great if you have no one to play against.

OK, glad I picked up a couple of these at Origins. I went to get my order from my LFGS, and found that his supplier (Alliance) didn't get in enough to cover their customer's pre-orders!!
My shop was shipped none!! (to be fair, mine might have been the only order at his store). So now I need to wait for them to replenish.

    $9.99 for 15mm unassembled/unpainted plastic models, I don't know.
Might want to take a look at Zvezda Art of Tactic tanks, as they are about half the price. They also require a little assembly and painting, but are 1/100th and decent enough for gaming.

I was eyeing the game heavily at Origins but didn't snag anything there - today I ordered the Boxed Set and an extra Panzer IVH online...

I'm sure it's just the beginning...

PS - Great job on those tanks, Joaquim - I look forward to painting and building mine when they arrive.

we just played our initial game of this for our monday night game group. i have to say, overall i like it as its simplicity reminds me quite a bit of wings. there are some things i didnt care for.

us shermans seem to be a bit over powered. we (the germans) took on a stock 75mm m4 and a 76mm m4 with 2 stock late war panzer IVs and a stug III. the outcome? the 76mm m4 was the sole survivor. due to inherent restrictions the stug proved to be worthless as it never fired a shot in anger (its only shot was taking out a hapless outhouse in frustration). initiative is fixed by number (highest moves last and fires 1st {like xwing and staw) and the stug only had a 3 so it ended up moving 1st the entire game. it was further restricted by only being able to fire whatever was in its path between its fenders. i understand why they restricted it to this for sake of simplicity but, as i said, it made the stug entirely useless as the shermans would simply dash out of its line of fire no matter how the 2 panzer IVs tried to herd and set the m4s up. i think, due to its performance tonight, and the fact that they did, indeed have a limited traverse, were going to give it a small firing arc instead of the line of fire restriction. another thing i, personally didnt care for; is (again like xwing and staw) not only does the attacker roll hits, the defender gets to roll for blocking, often with more dice than the attacker rolls. this really drew tha game out longer than it needed to be. plus, as anyone paying attention will note. i hate dice rolling because i usually role poorly. true to form, after 1 initial excellent roll i rolled mostly poorly with the defender rolling well the few times i did better than average the rest of the game. also, unless it was further bacl in the rule book under optional rules there was no bonus for firing on a tanks rear armor as opposed to its side armor and there was no opportunity fire.

other than these points i really like the games streamlined simplicity and ease of play. the models themselves looked excellent especially compared to some axis and allies tank minis that rick already had. so far i think id rate it at least and 8 out of ten.

I saw this played at a game store on the day of release with the standard box contents and it was quite tense, the Sherman's commander was convinced he would lose as the Panther seemed mighty and to have the edge in the defence but he eventually prevailed. The models look superb too.
I think if you only opened up the Stug arc of fire by 10 degrees each side that would improve its chances and allow it to sit back and cover more area.

But reality and Tanks does not go hand in hand. This is a fun little game, but not at all a depiction of reality. Whoever tries it thinking it is will be very disappointed.

    Exactly!

Looking at Joaquim's photos above, of the tanks in the built up area, all I could think was "where's the bl00dy infantry?"

the quick and dirty house rule we came up with is give it the firing arc as measured from the back of the tank through the front fenders (maybe 30-35 degrees). it equates to more than a stug had but we came up with the justification that the driver could "finagle" it a bit either way like pilots jockey the rudder in wings to get a firing arc. well give it a playtest when weve played the game a bit more to become familiar with the mechanics.

very true. just as with wings and reality. hopefully itll be as open ended as wings is for the addition of house rules .

The best part was that in the Tanks facebook group I was trolled when I suggested some house rules for infantry and AT weapons. They were offender that I was destroying the pureness of the game. Oh yes... Me and my house rules. I didn't tell them that I created some solo rules for the game....

This sounds about right. Turretless assault guns and tank destroyers were only effective where an opponent had to come down a single approach path; this is part of why US TDs were based on turreted designs (the experience with the M3 had shown the ineffectiveness of hull guns on tanks and TDs). Shermans with 76mm guns (either the US model, or the British 17-lb. on the "Firefly") were effective against anything short of a King Tiger or similar.

im not saying they shouldnt be restricted but they did have a limited traverse (25degress). but with the rules as they are, a stug is completely useless against anything with a higher initiative.

Not entirely true, but they did act more like AT guns than tanks. Mostly, they were used as an ambush weapon, and were quite effective at this.

So you either use them to declare a no-go zone, or buy them a card that increases their initiative.
