Cool The Warm Welcome Well Received.

    Hi Folks

You may remember me signing up to join the Aerodrome on February 28th this year - my best friend's birthday in fact! I reported for duty and received a ton of welcome messages from across the globe.

Now I have my Rules and Accessories pack and two aircraft I can begin to get my head around the playing of this wonderful game. I chose to play WGF instead of the other games available as my true inspiration is my Great Grandfather and his service in 2 Squadron AFC and 4 Squadron AFC during WW1. By WW2 he was involved with the Queensland and Northern Territory Air Service and so my connection and inspiration is not so strong. Though I will see WGS and get to play it one day though!

I think what I want to say is thank you very much for the warm welcome and for the encouragement I have received from members in Australia. This feels like a proper community which has taken me on board and allowed me to be myself in the process of playing and learning the game. As well as learning the history aspect given my inspiration too: WW1 was a far from pleasant experience and is now thank heavens part of a bygone era.

Elsewhere I have encountered stigma and some really ignorant attitudes which I mentioned on here. To be told that real life begins at home with Wings of Glory ... Toughen Up but in a friendly understandable way ... Don't let the male chauvinists grind me down! Amidst the same posting I made quite a big Typo! Which members laughed about with me instead of laughing at me for making it.

There are not that many members I have noticed in Australia and New Zealand who post stuff so I would like to say a huge thank you to all of you. Would drop some names but I don't want to miss anybody off the list - I think you know who you are anyway when you read this. However I would like to mention Zoe Brain because I feel she is an inspiration to us all and maybe I will meet her one day at the CANCON Event.

    Thanks Again!

Being Anglo-Australian I reckon this counts

That is great to hear and I am glad the RAP has finally arrived! All you have to observe is a few simple rules and guidelines and the world really is your oyster on here. History-wise and game-wise.

Two already? Please spill the beans. Like with anything that doesn't involve sitting watching TV all day some people outside of the Aerodrome might have some bizarre and unusual opinions and beliefs. But all you need to picture in these instances is the fact that those people could be bog-snorkelers or bus spotters in their spare time!

Zoe is outstanding as a Member - she was so supportive and encouraging to me when I wasn't well and during my recent trip to Rehab. As well as plays both versions of the game and has a phenomenal knowledge of history. Even I hope to meet her one day to thank her in person for what she did during my hours of need. As you say a true inspiration.

    Relax ... Play ... Enjoy

    Danielle,
I love the nickname! Glad to hear you are able to jump into the game. I have learned so much history because of this game, it is an amazing era in history. Be sure to post is a couple After Action Reports of your first dogfights!

For me Danielle WGF offers those wonderful colour schemes for the Central Powers planes , together with as Shawn says the oportunity to delve into the fascinating history of early flight combay.
Welcome to this most absorbing and fun hobby.

I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings
Coming down is the hardest thing

Great to hear your 'goodies" have arrived & I look forward to hearing of your progress.
Danielle if you are looking at getting a few more aircraft may I suggest you check out what Xen (Evan Morgan) has available down in Victoria.
If you look in the "for Trade or Sell" section go to his first post as he updates what is available.
I have brought many goodies from him over time & can guarantee his service. He accepts Paypal if you use it.

I'll toss +1's both on the Welcome Aboard, and Xen's recommends. Shipping from Down Under to the States sucked, but if it weren't for him finding the last original D.VII I needed and finagling a deal to complete my set... well, I'd probably never have managed to complete the collection at all.

HELP! The member who made this comment always talks about his WGS playing career. But he is currently going through a WGS playing career crisis at the moment ...

    I want to help out

Over the Atlantic where the AAL crews normally start playing poker I got my calculator out and started totalling up what sort of sale price I would get for the WGS aircraft. Almost a grands-worth of stuff sitting on a shelf behind me doing nothing. You know I hardly ever get the chance to play this game any more.

Time is running out as this player has re-discovered their love of MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR! AAL is American Airlines and a grands-worth of stuff means Ł1000. I cannot help feeling that he is going to regret doing this!

I would like our Australia & New Zealand members to take a look at what I have highlighted from this member's message earlier on in this thread? Would anybody object if I suggested that he changes over from where he currently is and joins the Australian Wing as a bit of a morale booster. I think all he needs to do is change his flag nationality and put Brisbane like me to do this. But looking more considerately into this idea I imagine how some members may feel that nationality is an issue here even if this one is a case of 50-50.

If you have any objections please say. This is not a Just Do It idea I feel it is an Ask First ... Then Do It idea. Any views on this then please as I say just post them because this idea is unusual but it may be a lifeline.

Bear in mind that from the sound of that quote from him that those Boeing 777s or Boeing 787s he is flying on Flight Sim could be about to lose the Aerodrome a member. We are losing a friend if this happens too.

Yell. Regarding your above posting - very kind and considerate of you by the way.

Firstly, let us wait and see if there are any objections like you say.

Secondly ... If there are no objections I'll think about this carefully. Because I know how upset you are.

Thirdly, this IS a serious matter so I too encourage views and opinions whatever their nature. But what I will NOT stand for is a bunch of nasty postings from the UK Clique about either you or myself.

I think I must be becoming the bear with very little brain because I read half of the above and I really have no clue as to what is going on.

Anyway, it is great to have you here Yell, the Aerodrome is all the greater for your presence.

Hello again. It's a lot to get one's head around I know. But the first thing any of the above needs is Barn when he is feeling himself again. Goodness knows when that will be - the sooner the better.

Thank you for the supportive comment I have highlighted above. The Aerodrome sure is an interesting place and I'm learning - sometimes not the easy way but I am learning. That's what I would like to assure everyone

Yell! Mr M is one of the Members I would like to introduce you to if you ever came over to an event. Or alternatively he could introduce us both to Stingray which he has created based on the Jerry Anderson TV show. Looks absolutely amazing from the photos.

Anyway our cover has been blown rather dramatically in the Doncaster 2016 thread just now by me. Because my planned visit runs over the weekend of October 1st / 2nd this year ... What a shame. Not.

So a snub to the Flagship UK Event represents the start of my defection from the UK wing - no objections so far here looking favourable. Thank goodness for Dual-Nationality hey Sis? IF I choose to remain in the game that is because selling all my WGS stuff = more Gemini Jets diecast airliner models over the coming year or so. My WGF stuff is yours - bring it over with me in September!

Barney me old mate what is going on?
Is this still a reaction to two UK members leaving the Aerodrome?
I sincerely hope you do NOT allow that to cause you to give up on the Game.
That is just not worth it & you will be the looser!

Your Passion is known & respected so please let things pass, settle down & loose yourself in the skies of Wings again.

You know you will be welcome in the Aussie Wing as your initial nick name was Aussie Tonka!

I have no involvement in what has been going on and the issues Barney has been facing so I won't comment on that stuff. I for one however enjoy your (Barney's) posts and think you would be missed around here. Again I don't know the ins and outs but if switching wings helps you enjoy the game better then I have no objections, this website is after all, about the game right? Just my two cents, or nickel as it were.

Barry thank you SO much for your kindliness and support. Read your PM by the way for which I am also grateful. What a GREAT start

Wes & Darell thank you both for your supportive comments and votes of confidence. The plan is indeed for Barn to change wings because I cannot help feeling that life for him would be so much better in general. I also cannot help feeling he would not be heading for something regrettable if he really did stop playing and sell up. About which he is still currently in two minds but I think I may be persuading him to at least give this idea of mine a go.

Wes check those cents and nickels of yours again ... Because I swear there was a flash of gold just now

Thumbs up Yell, what a CLEVER idea!

Everyone ... This I think has got to be one of the cleverest and most admirable ideas I have ever known. Please may I make a few friendly points regarding Yell's idea to keep me in the game.

Dual Nationality: Yes I have this but I would like to urge us away from a discussion within a thread about it. This is because I suspect Nationality in the same way as Politics to be a no-no in terms of the Aerodrome Code of Conduct. We must avoid being frowned upon by the Admin Staff who do a fantastic job here looking after us as witnessed recently by myself.

Objections: I am making the changeover now so please do not hesitate to PM me with any objections - please don't post PM instead. However your views will still be handled with great care and conscientiousness: In the event of anything severe being expressed then I'll probably just drop off the site having changed back to UK Wing again.

For Valour: This idea of Yell's is clever in it's nature and it just so happens brings two relatives closer together. But I'm going to refrain from a load of Bruv Sis and soppy stuff because this is Wings of Glory after all and not Happy Families. To keep things in context with the game avoids emotions clouding postings and the expressions and views of others - which as we know and appreciate they are entitled to.

Aerodrome Diplomat: Many have dubbed me this just recently and though I appreciate this as they had reason to I'm afraid I relinquish myself of this role! I have changed wings and do not want to bring any of this hullabaloo with me because may I reiterate what is most important about us all being here: To have fun and enjoy. to relax and play the game.

Staying In The Game? Yes. Because reading some of the postings above is what changed my mind and urged me to give this idea a go instead. Let us see how we get on ...

Christopher, Hi and I hope you are well. Thanks for your PM whilst I get the chance I'll reply soon.

Yell I will confirm has kept me playing the game and also kept me on the Aerodrome with an idea which I am still ultra-impressed with. As you know I was originally Aussietonka on here but shortened this to just Tonx after that big pile-up called Squadrongate last year. Same again just recently wasn't there ... UK Wing involved again. Being born in Brisbane but now living in the UK (well spotted Yell) makes me Anglo-Australian ... Which I have used to my advantage in changing wings in order to leave all that behind. I also didn't fancy the reputation of being Aerodrome Diplomat any more because my health is just not up to it: I have three days of violent mood-swings behind me now to explain why I feel that way.

We came here to have fun and most of all to play and exchange views on Wings of Glory. The next time my former wing has a pile-up ... Simple. I'm here not there and therefore needn't worry about it

Barney, you cruised the Aerodrome skies for a year now and you enriched this place with your contributions.

Would be a shame if you throw it all away in three days.

    My opinion.

Take your time and don't try to dance on all weddings.

Chris, Hi and I hope you are well.

We have had a bit of rough and tumble on here ... Next thing I knew my health went into freefall. NOT being rude as you can imagine / appreciate but I'd rather not say anything more about what happened.

When I was attempting to put together a list of "local" Canadian gamer, I ran across an individual flying the Canadian Flag, but living in the USA. Not helpful for my purposes, and a bit irritating. No way to resolve that, without asking the individual to change their flag to their country of residence.

Actually, I just can't imagine any issue, other than the above, to take umbrage at whatever flag a member would like to fly, if that is the affiliation they wish to display. Residency can still be shown by province/state/whatever, or city. This is an international forum, that welcomes members from around the world, after all.

I am so glad you have decided to stay, Barney. I may not agree with all you do on the Forum, and now that the Post-WWII exists, the jet crowd now have their own realm to revel in, including the Vulcan forays you enjoy sharing. But the Forum is supposed to be a place to share the passion of the game, and allow for the sharing of ideas and information. Now, thanks to you and others, Barney, we have yet another whole realm of possibilities to explore, or not, depending on our personal taste.

Thanks for your contributions, in all the versions of Wings of Glory, no matter what flag you fly. I will be looking for your posts.

Popped back in briefly to find out why my sidekick Yell's membership has been frozen / disabled ...

There is nothing showing in Yell's profile to show her membership is "frozen" or "restricted".

Been a long time but great to hear from you as well. As for assisting with Yell's account we both owe you a beer as well as a game!

Once this problem has been sorted she will be back as my sidekick keeping me in check - in fact it was Yell who forbade me from parachuting in through the Officers' Mess window for fear of causing too much margie-bargie!

Ride back in the Blackburn Boombox C Mk 1 brought me back into Ringway (now MAN of course) where the PTU checked my chute and taught me how to use it safely. Also advised against parachuting through Officers' Mess window ...

Further to my return Yell is still experiencing parachute problems and cannot return as my sidekick until these are fixed. Let's hope for no major margie-bargie in this direction too ...

I find Unconditional Acceptance works well.
Acute bipolar is a pain in the petunias for those afflicted by it, but I've worked through worse when dealing with friends who are intersex, and undergoing severe hormonal and neurochemical transmitter storms, involving body shape as well as mind.

You're always welcome. Both of you. I speak now wearing my Australian Adjutant hat.

Hey Barney! I don't have an official hat with which to welcome you back, but echo both Zoe & Baz's sentiments... you and Yell shall always find welcome at my door. End of terms have me largely absent (3 weeks to go!), but I didn't want to miss the opportunity to voice my pleasure at your return.

Good hunting, my friend, and always check six!

    Chris
