Glad you're enjoying Wintercon - so much so that you haven't noticed it's winter. :-)

    OpDay 1- 3 games.

Game 1 : 1915 Q3. Initially 2 Moranes, and a Gunbus vs 1 Fokker E.II and 2 Albatros C.I. The mission of the Albatros's was to cruise the trench lines taking photos, the mission of their opponents was to stop them.
One of the C.Is had the observer - and thus its only armanent - neutralised by the first shot from the Gunbus. However, it managed to climb away and complete its mission, not being able to help its companion (which took a BOOM card soon anyway). The Albatros was replaced with an AGO C.I, one of the Moranes with a superannuated Martinsyde S.I, another Morane entered, as did a Gotha G.I on a bombing mission...

Game 2: July 16, 1916. A flock of Nieuports, an 11, a 16, and an RFC 17 with an experimental Sopwith Pup vs a Fokker E.IV, a Fokker D.II, 2 Halberstadt D.IIs protecting a balloon. While the Central powers didn't manage to stop the Rocket-firing N16 from getting to the balloon, they did keep it constantly under fire so it never was able to make the steady run needed for a successful rocket attack.

Game 3: January 1917, with 2 Albatros D.II, and a SSW D.I attempting to stop a recon FE2b escorted by a Pup and an N17. Well, they should have been escorting it... But got left behind by a rather adventurous FE2b pilot, who managed to get all 3 German aircraft on his tail. The results were predictable, despite the single gun on the SSW doing more damage than the twin Spandaus on the Albatros's. He couldn't keep drawing 0 damage forever, and was eventually downed.

Pictures to follow. The new No Mans Land and Industrial mats fit in well with all 3 existing mats, roads and rivers lining up perfectly.

Definitely a switch where our friends from downunder get theirs before us.
Good job getting them in time for your con, Zoe.

P.S. Keith - any ETA on the ones from the Aerodrome ?

Great pics so far, Zoe! I look forward to more - and your AAR is lovely, too, Carl

The new maps look good 'in play', as well...must order mine soon here...

Looks like all were having a wonderful time. Hope you all enjoyed putting on and playing games!

    All the best,
    Matt

Travel day for me so no more AARs today.

I would like to say thanks to Zoe for organising the table at WinterCon. It was great to catch up with the southern States crowd.

We didn't get as many drop in players as we would have liked, but we flew the flag for the game and with the pending releases for both WGF and WGS I think we will get bigger crowds next year.

More great pictures of the games - Gothas always look better in flocks...

Thanks for posting a view of the Wintercon Madness!

Had we managed to get 2 tables rather than 1, the Giants would have made an appearance. As it was, there was just no room for the 3 R.VI and 1 R.IV I have in my collection. Maybe at Cancon... the organisers and regulars are noticing that the WGF participation games drawn in the crowds. This year, there were far fewer visitors than usual, but what visitors there were, were inveigled into playing.

The shop owners noticed the interest in buying the product too. It's early days yet, but a major distributor asked me to get Ares to contact them. We'll see what transpires.

There's a reason the Germans called them 'Riesenflugzeuge'...they are large...two on a mission at Origins was a sight to behold

I shall keep my fingers crossed that someone nearby in the Southern Hemisphere will begin stocking Wings of Glory - that's great news that consumer interest has awakened the attention of a distributor.

    All the best,
    Matt

Back home in QLD after a 1400km drive, which took more than 16 hours due to that enemy of all travellers - road works

I will post more AARs tomorrow.

That is a long drive. I think it is about 1200 km from my place. 1.75 hour flight is best I think.

Zoe and I worked out we could have fielded 7 Zeppelin-Staakens (more than the maximum number actually sent on any raid) and at least 7 Gothas. That would look impressive!

    One day.....(sigh).

I have just posted another couple of WinterCon AARs, see post above - http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...l=1#post413749

I will upload Day 2 mission photos and commentary later this evening.

Thanks for your efforts at another successful convention.

The crew was very kind in letting my pair of young flight lieutenants (aged six and nearly four) bring on a flight of Gothas mid game.

I made a point of telling the organisers what a great job you did on the way out so hopefully should help you secure a spot next time.

    Thanks for that Muz!
I think the lads enjoyed the BIG Bombers especially the older one.

It was great to meet Carl and see Zoe again. I was only there for the morning session on Saturday, my intent to come back Sunday was foiled by tonsillitis (at nearly 60yo- felled by a "kid's disease"). I picked up my HP 0/400, got blown up by a first-time player (a young bloke who really enjoyed his time playing) and then was introduced to the AGO C.II, a German pusher aircraft I'd never heard of. Carl and I swapped war stories about the School of Infantry, while Bazza kept trying to dodge friendly aircraft, flown by excited novices, in his gun bus.

Zoe, thanks for all the work you put into the WoG table. It was a lot of fun, mate.

It was a pleasure to meet you Dal, I hope you can kick the tonsillitis into touch as soon as possible.

I will likely be back down for Cancon in January, I hope we can get a couple more flying hours in at that event.

    Cheers,

    Carl.

I look forward to another game, Carl. You do get to see the worst of Canberra though- -5°C at Wintercon and 45°C at CanCon.

    Take care, mate.

RAINF mate, we fight regardless of season, weather or terrain (even when it's only battles involving tiny planes)
