Thread: Woodstock Reports for Duty!

  1. #1

    Default Woodstock Reports for Duty!

Had a few minutes of down time so what to do? Go a little cuckoo kinda.

You too can go cuckoo! Purchase a small block of oven bake clay in bright yellow, find a view of Woodstock you like, copy it off at the proper size, outline it in black marker, cut out and trace it onto the clay . . .

carve your bird, place it on bit of pizza baking cardstock (eat the pizza first)

Bake, decorate, serve! Repeat until you get it right . . .

Now to make a Sopwith Birdhouse for him to fly . . .

Nah -- Sopwith 1&1/2-Strutter; Snoopy pilot, Woodstock gunner. (Or perhaps the other way around?)

That is a good technique with the clay, David.

Great idea to use the yellow Fimo-like clay, David! I shall have to try this myself - SWMBO has a whole bin of it downstairs...she won't notice a little piece missing...

    All the best,

Give it a go, I discovered my counter top toaster oven works great for this stuff! I tried it years ago for minis and bits like tires and pilots and engines, but firing up the big oven was hard to manage the temperature and keep the bits out of the dinner . . . also this time around I timed it so the clay was not completely hard so I could do some final carving and shaping-worked great!

My Better Half (who is an art teacher) has a little toaster oven specifically for the purpose of 'firing' these sort of baking clays, although she has used our oven in the kitchen for the same purpose from time to time...

Your idea of doing him up aldente so he can still be carved is a great suggestion!

    All the best,
    Matt

    Another very apt one Chris.
One I have not previously seen either.
