Shapeways WSF models by Kampfflieger, paint by Vallejo (Model Air RAF PRU Blue) and Tamiya, decals by Mehusla and Microscale, propeller discs from Aerodrome Accessories. A surviving VMSB-241 pilot said years afterward that their ground crews had given them send offs like Japanese kamikaze pilots would later receive (standing at attention, saluting, tears running down faces), so it's a real shame that their sacrifice (half the squadron got shot down) didn't achieve better results.

They were inexperienced crews flying obsolescent aircraft (and SB2Us had suspect dive breaks from the get-go), willingly going up against the cream of the Imperial Japanese Navy. It's impossible to not admire these guys. Battle of Midway is a great reference for these and other aircraft that were there, and I'm sure John Ford was pretty choked up as he filmed VMSB-241 taking off.

Looking good Darryl. A sad sacrifice in the face of insurmountable odds. A pity luck was not on their side.
See you on the Dark Side......

    Default 1/144 scale, 3D Vindicators VMSB-241

Almost finished with these, I think they need a little wear on the leading edges, then they'll be finished. 3D printed, 1/144 scale SB2U Vindicators, if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say they were from kampfflieger's shop http://www.shapeways.com/product/JJS...tionId=8753234 . The undersides are Vallejo Model Color lt gray while the tops are pastel blue. The rudders are Vallejo Model Air PRU Blue, the intent was to go just a bit darker on the rudders to represent the red & white stripes having been overpainted. Could have gone a touch darker I imagine. Decals are a mix, most of them are from Miscellaneous Miniatures but I think #6 is sporting I-94 stars on the fuselage, and about half of the white-tape decals are thin slices of Microscale decals. I think I've gotten the measurements figured out in 1/144 scale. I expect to test fit the same set of decals, in 1/200 scale, in the not too distant future. Kevin
