    Default Just arrived here

Hi, my real name is Tim or as I'll be know here Rusty Tin.

I game at Staines Wargamers in Egham and we include WW1 Wings of War/Glory in our regular programme. It's supposed to be once per month but that is flexible depending on other commitments.
We have large collections of WoW models and these are augmented by Shapeways, Skytrex and F toys. We actually have far more models than we need but wargame models are not really about need are they?

I've been modelling most of my life and still use the Airfix Stuka that my dad and I made in the 50's, when we need 20mm air support.

We have been playing WoW for a few years now starting a year or so after the first models came out.

My current WoW projects are mostly based on the early years of air combat. I have just finished a Rumpler Taube, a Vickers Gunbus, a BE2c, a Farman Shorthorn, and a Voisin 8.
These are fit to use but I'll probaly embelish them when I get around to making some detailed decals.
    Active projects on my desk are a Caudron G.3, a Friedrichshafen FF33, a Short 184, a Blackburn Kangaroo and a Roland D.II.

I made a lot of decals for a Schweinfurt game that we took around the southern shows in 2014. The 381st bomb group modelled in 1/160 or thereabouts down to individual serials and nose art. That was 20 aircraft to model the defensive box, perhaps that has put me off making decals for a while.

I'm not sure when our next WoW game will be since it should have been yesterday but we were offered a very enjoyable Napoleonic game instead.
Maybe in a couple of weeks.

    Tim

Welcome to the Aerodrome Tim from Derbyshire. Our Middlesex contingent is strong so Reporting for Duty was a great move on your part

    Welcome, and hello.
Yep there are quite a few players in the South East, just not in my strip it seems.
Sounds like I need to get travelling more.

Welcome to the mess from the Essex/Suffolk borders!

Pull up a chair, gesture imperiously at the waiter for a glass of ...whatever this is, and warm your toes at the fireside.

    What am I drinking chaps?

100 octane? Er, could I have a splash more soda with it?

    Tim,
Welcome to the 'drome. You may be a newcomer to the Forum, but it sounds like you have a lot to contribute.

Pictures? We really like pictures, and you have lots of models with custom paint jobs, from your post.

Hi Tim, welcome to the aerodrome. I seem to recall we have another Tim here. Let me ask you - how do you feel about Sails of Glory? Just wondering 'cos the other Tim just can't get enough of it

Tim, a warm welcome and welcome to the fireside. Yes the other Tim's watch phrase is "NO MORE PLANES" as he oft heard crying at shows. He really loves a game with those wooden sailing dinghies they used so long ago. in fact they take second place now to his plastic duck in the bath since he lost his 1/1200th scale titanic to a floating glob of soap awhile back.

But don't let that put you off, hope you brought some decent records with you; we've played out all of ours. But of course until Hedeby returns the damn horse the artillery wallahs won't return the gramophone or the CO's office for that matter.

Now what are you drinking old chap?
See you on the Dark Side......

    Default What a Mess.

Welcome Tim from West Yorkshire. I used to be a Southerner but circumstances intervened.
Fly safe and watch your six. See you in the Mess; mine's a pint!

Hi Tim, welcome to the 'Drome from another Tim in Middlesex.

Not the Tim mentioned above, I've no clue what those other two wallahs are on about (actually, I guess they're on about their sixth of the evening each!).

I game at the Pinner club, and am trying to sort out my games room to allow for play here too.

Sounds like you have a great collection of planes in your group - plenty of variety there! I'm just getting into early-war myself, or trying to, since unfinished late-war projects keep getting in the way.

Hope to see you in the circuit!

    Cheers

    Tim

Oh Neil, you & Steve are approaching a rocky shore with an on shore gale when Flying Helmet (the "other" Tim finds this thread!

    Thumbs up

G'day Tim (Rusty Tin) & welcome to the 'drome on behalf of the pilots who fly in NSW down in Australia.

Like you I love the early war planes & we often do Early War scenarios at our games club.

You would be a "natural" to fit right in to this place & please do post some pics of your efforts.

Hi Steve, I do my Napoleonic Naval using David Manley's 'Form line of battle'. I use 1/1200 models from Rod Langton. I have all the models for Trafalgar and we have done this several times and also many of the other fleet actions. I am into the War of 1812 and we have done most of the ship to ship actions.
I have made some mods to the FLOB rules that help us speed the game up.

I don't see the need to invest in Sails of Glory given that I have most of what I want in FLOB, and my clubmates are familiar with the rules.

    Hi Rob,
I saw an email from you but I think it got lost in my chaotic inbox. Sorry about that, my clumsyness I'm sure.
I'll have a rummage about for resources in a minute. I'll post a new thread if I can't find what I need.

And thanks for all the greatings chaps.
If anyone feels like dropping in on us we try to run a WOW on the first Friday of each month. All our details can be found at www.staineswargamers.org.uk although the site is a bit hard to navigate at the moment. If you want to attend please let me know beforehand since the WoW game sometimes moves date and occasionally is cancelled.
