    Default WWI Films

Hi Guys, It has occurred to me, after discovering "Flyboys" on Netflix, over Christmas, That my knowledge of World War One aviation films is severely limited. Can anyone enlighten me?

    My list so far

    1) The Blue Max
    2) The Red Baron
    3) Aces High
    4) Flyboys
    5) the Dawn Patrol

Also what is the best aviation film ever made?

That's more films then I knew about. Didn't know about Dawn Patrol.

I liked Flyboy's more than Red Barron. At least Flyboys had the attack on the Gotha

And Flyboys didn't take itself too seriously and consequently (IMHO) was a more "fun" film.

Also doesn't have the cringeworthy "modern name on the side of an 0/400" error that TRB has

Aces High for me . It's so terribly 'English' but the storyline is good ( battle fatigue for Simon Ward is a nice touch) and some of the flying scenes are not half bad.
But the Gotha shoot down in Flyboys is pretty nifty.

I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings
Coming down is the hardest thing

The three best in my H.O. in no particular order are:

Dawn Patrol (the1938 one with Errol Flynn)
    The Blue Max
    Aces High.

There is also a French film "Angles Wing" with subtitles which is loosely based on Guynemere.

The recent Red Baron one could have been good except the director tried to make MvR into a Mod boy anti war character but its worth a look.
