Thread: Lancaster Conversion?

    Default Lancaster Conversion?

This has been on the bench a while, just got around to finding the bits and pieces. I have 5 Dambusters which will find a mission or two as soon as I get the Dam built. Meanwhile I have been thinking of a quick non-permanent conversion from Dambuster to standard bomber. This requires the upper turret to be restored and the spinning bomb to be restored to a standard bomb bay. First off a set of saddle molds were formed from latex mold putty. The pink glob on the belly of the standard bomber, duplicated on the top turret.

Then the spinning bomb is carefully pried off the belly of the conversion bomber - care must be taken to preserve all four struts!

A tiny rare earth magnet and a washer will be engaged to allow for a quick change from Dambusting duty to bombing.

CA is used to cement the magnet and washers in place

    Like so for the Dams!

Now to the molding bits, here is the belly saddle mold ready for end plugs to be fabricated

    Hot glue end plugs added

and the bomb bay is poured and trimmed

Same happens to form and fit the upper turret

Bits of washer and mini magnets and they are ready to paint!

Now one Lanc can serve as two!

Why am I not surprised? Very good idea!

And for some reason, I can't Rep you. Another not-surprise!

What a wonderful "fix", Mr. Aerodrome Engineer! Of course you would figure this out - totally cool!

Fantastic idea and a good way of getting more usage out of the Avro Lancaster Dambuster Edition which really is in raw format a trophy aircraft. Also a good quick fix to gain an aircraft which carries something like the standard RAF Bomber Command colours instead of the 100 Squadron RAF colours which had yellow daubed all over them as per Grog's The Shot.

I hope I will be able to Rep Point you for this idea - going to try now
