Default Official Tupolev TB-3 Painting Thread

    HBM Tupolev TB-3
This was my entry to the WW2 Bomber Contest.
My entry was an offer from Steve (Guntruck) and it seemed to be waiting for something.
    I guess this was it.

I've build the wheels and painted it in the last afternoon before the end of the contest. Yes, I know, I know, it was on the last moment possible...

I love this lumbering giant and I'm dying to have it over the table. I might need a card...

This is a HBM model that originally had some fighters free riding it.

It was a pleasure to fast-paint it.

Have I mentioned that now I just need a card?...

My Russian Air Force is almost ready for Operation Barbarossa...

The scope opens up... Where will we be now?

That's a pretty big plane, Joaquim! Nice job for a one-day paint job

I hope you get a card for it...

    All the best,
    Matt

That one's the TB-3-4AM-34FRN, the last of the production variants. You can tell by the single wheels and enclosed turrets. This was the variant supplied to China.

Clipper's is the TB-3-4M-17F, the first production variant. Open turrets, double wheels, different tail (no tail turret).

Can the card be on 11x17" paper (US: B -Ledger/Tabloid, Euro: A3)?

PS: Any decent line drawings from the top view of this version of the plane?

Thank you so much, dear friends.

Neil, this was an offer from Steve (Guntruck). I really don't know if Dave from HBM has more.

Mike, I'll try to find a good view from the top. Thanks!

    Joaquim,
    I have this version:

If you can't find an equivalent (or better) version, I'll adapt this one (put the turrets on this).

    PS: Hmmm...

The versions don't appear to be that similar!

    Neil,
Unfortunately, absolutely useless. I think you snagged the thumbnail image.

I grabbed this copy, probably from the same place:

Better than a thumbnail, but too much shading/highlighting, and it is a bit pixelated for my liking.
I like to use line drawings, over a layer of a given paint scheme (which means I can change the colours fairly easily). Then I put on the unit/squadron markings, finishing off with the shading and highlights.

If that wasn't enough work... Then, I put all that in a card file, to do up the card - separately, with all the layers for the management and fire arc parts.

PS: Even more difference for this from the line drawing. Makes one wonder about artists and scale?

I tried to find a vision from above but couldn't. And my books are in Portugal...
