Thread: Name's Day celebration

    Default Name's Day celebration

Celebration of one's name's day is usually a great opportunity to meet with friends, have some (more) drinks and mostly have fun in my country.
I can not help the fact name "Andrzej" and November 30th when this "Name" has it's day (called "Andrzejki") is the most famous one and it is the time of balls held at homes and in many, well, cosy places. I can not deny I am quite happy with that.
This weekend my group with some friends from Warsaw hired appartments in the old castle of Moszna (once von Thiele-Winkler family nest) where the ball was planned.

Before the main event the first part of the group gathered on the balcony of our appartment with glasses of blackcurrant vodka (made home exclusively by Wojtek, third from the left) shots in hands.

Then the ball began and ... well, here you can see me morphed and armed and my Good Lady.
    Greetings my friends!

This all looks like great fun Andy - this is similar to the way that names are celebrated in France. Hope these celebrations have gone well for you

On what date is the name Barnaby celebrated? In France it's on June 11th every year (Barnabe) ...

I had better look out for these days Andy. It looks like an excuse for another great time.

St Stephen's Day is 26th of December, which is quite handy as there may be some booze left from Chrismas Day to celebrate

I can remember some awesome costume balls in Baden-Baden, Germany, when I was posted there. This brought back some of those memories. No digital images to post, sorry (not too many digital cameras in 1987).

Looks like you had a great time, and thanks for the time warp.

If Barnaby is not celebrated other than in France (Barnabe / June 11th) then I cannot admit to being surprized ... I did after all go through my childhood and teenage years having only heard of Barnaby Rudge and of the cartoon character Barnaby The Bear.

Then I moved to Loughborough in Leicestershire (UK) and discovered FOUR more Barnabys in the space of six months!

I prefer March 1st, St. David's Day, recalling the days the elves arrived and began their antics on the Aerodrome . . . and filling my spare room with minis and Zeppies!
