Default Kickstarter Delay - won't be ready till mid January

    From Ares....

It's not over until it's over... According to the latest schedule I got from our factory, our "Giants of the Sky" were supposed to be ready to ship tomorrow. Instead, this morning, I found out this was not going to be the case. When I asked for confirmation of the product shipping out now, I got the following reply. Quoting from the factory manager:

"We have some problem at the printing stage for this project. We find the paper is not up to standard when we started the printing process. Finally we needed to reject the paper and order paper from another supplier again. Right now, printing processing just finished and we started varnishing, polishing and embossing. I am sorry to let you know that goods of this project will not ready until Dec 5. "

    To be clear:

the models themselves are completed (in fact, since months now!)
all Aerodrome accessories are produced and waiting
Snoopy is patiently waiting on his doghouse

The delay only relates to the cardboard components and packaging, which are delaying the final assembly until the date indicated (December, 5th).

We will keep you updated as soon as the ex-works date is confirmed.

The bad news for all of us is that, due to this further delay, we'll not receive the airplanes in time for Christmas holidays (shipping time from China is 6 weeks on average).

The good news is that we will use 4 shipment hubs, shipping out from Australia and Canada, not just Germany and USA. This will save some time to backers in the Pacific area, and custom charges to our Australian and Canadian backers.

The second part of my Dust Kickstarter just arrived, that's over a year late. These things happen.
I forget they are coming and get a pleasant surprise when they do arrive

Thanks goodness Origins isn't until June 2016 - we might actually be able to use them by then!

I guess we did actually 'invest' our money in the Kickstarter; as long as we get that 'return', it's all good, right!

    All the best,
    Matt

Well, I do have one of each sitting in my office right now. So we are at least covered for Origins... unless you crazy guys are planning to put more then one on the table at a time! If that's the case, I can probably lay hands on a couple more. I'm a little more concerned about the SBDs for my game though

Now that you mention it, Keith, 10 H-P 0/400s flying across the table being 'hunted' by a bunch of German fighters WOULD be a cool scenario to run...

All the best, and hope you're feeling better!

My kickstarter Rookie Pledge (Starter + 4 planes) & accessories have been "processing" for 40 days, so I guess they must be in the same shipment from China.

Aerodrome Store didn't have it in stock so since I was ordering kickstarter WGF accessories I added the Rookie Pledge. I should have listened to my gut but some of the kickstarter backers had received their rookie pledge. I guess January 2016 is the estimated date for now

I am not surprised any more. Lots of stuff to paint in the meantime. January or April, who cares? So many minis around to play with...so little time.
There will be an excuse to play solo Ares' Galaxy Defenders... a smashing game!

This is where I am at too. My very first Wings of Glory purchase was via kickstarter. I've since acquired a rookie pack + 17 other planes from other sources so I don't really need it anymore. I wish I could cancel the rookie pack, but I'm looking forward to the maps and cards sets I ordered along with it.

I'm on the fence right now in deciding if I should cancel/remove the Rookie Pledge from my order. I was hoping to get it before Thanksgiving which is definitely not happening. I think I'm going to try to cancel, but knowing my luck they will cancel the Rookie pack but "forget" to refund the cost.

Anymore delays and I can tell myself Happy Birthday at the end of March with my purchase.
This is my first Kickstarter, and what a kick it has been.

No worries friend! Worse comes to shove, I will have my Red Eagle Staaken available for use. Everything WoG I own will be at the Con on display (if there is room) for anyone to use!

I've got Rookie Packs stock now and can ship it out on Sat. Priority mail should get it to you by Thanksgiving if you really need/want it by then.

Update - I requested a refund from Ares Games, but they said they could ship the Rookie Pledge before the Kickstarter accessories are sent. I was going to buy from Aerodrome, but Ares said they will ship it next week (). Thanks Keith for letting me know that Aerodrome has the starter pack in stock.

Well I had thought about running a bomber stream scenario with as many Gothas and Stakken we could get, but put it off for 2017

Just had an email from Ares saying my order of June 10, 2015 is 'Complete'.
Nothing in itself about shipping as yet. That maybe down to the fact I added some bits to the order in July.
    But things may be moving.

    Ditto Steve's comment.

Scenario idea... a while back at Enfilade, when the Gothas and Capronis were new we did some 'Bomber Jousting,' just point the big birds at each other and let the gunners go at it. That might be an interesting, if L-O-N-G and S...L...O...W, match to play with the new beasts, maybe each player takes one gun station.

I was hoping the RAP packs would arrive in time for Cancon. There were literally a dozen people asking where to get the minis and rules, and the cost.

There's now exactly one FLGS in the whole continent that carries them - except the RAP is OOS. Same with the 2 mail order stores here. The wholesaler that has the Australian license is apparently unenthused, so doesn't bother getting them in, and retailers don't get their orders filled after payment. This has been a perennial problem. The only reliable source that was usually able to get stock (eventually - you might have to wait 18 months as I did for some items) was Milsims.

    Oh well, there's always Wintercon.

I wonder if the contracts include financial penalties for not meeting the agreed upon deadlines?

Or is Ares at the mercy of the overseas manufacturing with no recourse for compensation?

    From the kickstarter comments page:

"Please note that we apply the "Completed" status in our system to orders when we process them and send them to the warehouse.
All orders have now been transfered to the warhouse for handling, and we plan to start shipping out rewards later this week."

Excellent question, I will pass it along but can't promise an answer.

It is a regular clause in business contracts. I would be taken aback if there was no such a catch (I mean catch 22).
