Default Стары Ольса - Medieval Pink Floyd

Since 1999, Belarusian music ensemble Stary Olsa (Стары Ольса) has been known for playing medieval folk music on traditional instruments, including the lyre, mandolin, flute, and gusli. That may seem like an incredibly arcane and limiting specialty, but this unusual approach has sustained the band for 15 years and eight albums.
They also do post-1400 music too, using the same techniques.

Love it! I am currently addicted to Masters of Chant, Gregorian. Nothing like Dire Straits and Pink Floyd done in chant! My fave is "Hymn" a hit here in the late 70's . . . even the elves like it!

Very interesting take. Interesting to hear David Gilmour's solo on recorder.

There is a Swedish group called "Urban Turban". They play blues- and rocktunes in an old Swedish folkmusic style.
I'll try ti find a clip on youtube and post it later if anyone is interested

    Excellent find, Zoe!

A few years ago, some of my re-enactor friends introduced me to a band called Schelmish, who played medieval songs on period instruments, including bagpipes, bouzouki, darbuka, cittern, tromba marina.
Their live performances were akin to the "Stomp" musical - loud, raucous energy!

Buying CDs at re-enactor fayres opened up a wide vista of such bands - I now listen to Malleus, Corvus Corax, Faun, Tabula Rasa, Blackmore's Night, the list goes on and on. Most perform in German, French, Latin, a few in English, with many pure instrumentals. Some mix the medieval instruments with electric guitars and synths; it's quite a mixture, but great music to drive to!

The Babes used to perform in the same show as us when we did our Medieval week at Berkley Castle each summer.
On the evening before the show opened, they always did a show just for the re-enactors, and at each performance during the week each of them was escorted onto the stage by our guys dressed in full plate, or mail armour.
    Those were the days!
