I have posted this on Circuits and Bumps but it was suggested that I should have put it here. There are 2 or 3 oictures missing but these can be seen on a subsequent post on Circuits and Bumps. Still learning but getting there.Well here goes with the AAR.
Go bust a Balloon or The Barons' Alternative Ending.
It's a fine October day somewhere east of Arras and a British Observation Balloon is deployed at the request of the RFA to spot and correct.

The balloon with its' Anti Air support deployed and its' personal 'last ditch escort', a Brisfit, which has orders to stay on station orbiting the balloon and not to engage the enemy unless they are about to attack the balloon.

The SE.5 flight leader signals his Wingman to take on the two later Fokkers while he bravely heads for the Red Barons' flight. He makes a head on attack inflicting 4 damage on his Red adversary without taking any return fire.

The SE.5 leader performs an Immelman turn and gets into position on the tail of the Red Fokker from where he delivers another, close range, attack inflicting another 8 points of damage causing a wound to the pilot and engine damage. Meanwhile his Wingman has made a head-on pass against the other Fokker flight without managing to get off a shot, causing and taking no damage to either side.

The Wingman gets closer. But so do the Fokkers, to the Balloon, who now have a clear route to their objective.

The SE flight leader gets off a deflection shot at the Baron which is enough to take the feared adversary into the ground. The second Fokker flight, thoroughly demoralised by the loss of their famous leader, retreat!

The SE flight leader, with his aircraft now on fire, collides with the other Fokker. Was this the last brave act of a dying man or just an unfortunate accident? We will never know! DFC at least I would think.

The remaining Fokkers return for a last gasp attack on the balloon again causing minor damage but are engaged by the remaining Brits with Kempf narrowly avoiding a collision with the Wingman, before being finally chased off across the line.

The SE's took 6 points of damage each, the Brisfit also took 6 while the balloon took 5. We were unable to find out the extent of damage on the two Huns who retreated over the line but it was probably minimal as the Wingman admitted that he had not fired his guns during the whole operation. Obviously some more flying instruction is required. We do know that the Fokker who went down from the collision had, up to that point, taken nil damage.
