Very nice work on the Albatross Ian.
Very nice work on the Albatross Ian.
You are going too fast for me Andy.
I only printed the cards off for the 202 s this afternoon.

These just in! The elves are accumulating a back log! We are suddenly into 1/200" scale US Navy flying boats, Martin style!
And for a big 12" wingspan, the early Mars!
And the elusive Sablatnig SF4 triplane plan is found!
And of course the Felixstowe Fury, great triplane beastie!
And then the door bell rings and we find this awesome package of foam molding materials! Think foam molded barrage balloons, blimps, and Zeps! More experimenting!
And the requisite foam mold release! So many pressies, so little time!
Clipper in nirvana mode!
Go on Clipper! I love your creativity! It fuels my mind constantly.

Well I managed to find my way back into this hobby after 2 or so years out of it. I always have had this one rather ugly custom painted SPAD XIII that I painted when I was 16. It was terrible. So as a way to get back into Wing of War I decided to paint it. I've stripped it and am now painting it up in the colours of Lt Weir Cook from the US 94th Aerosquadron from when the squadron had its painting contest in 1919. Been working on that for about a week. Should be finished soon.
I noticed while researching the aircraft that the card that I had for it (that had come as a Promo in one of the packs I bought) showed the aircraft as blue, when everything else I found said it was black. So having almost finished painting it when I found this out I had to strip all the paint and start a fresh...

Looking good!
Please post pictures of the finished article!
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Glad to see I am not the only one affected! My workbench is still on Holiday . . . and looking rather festive at that, Mrs Clipper is doing some cooking! Incoming grandchild alert, T-12 hours and counting . . . elves are working out new Hot Wheel track layouts!
Meanwhile in the laundry room, the elves discovered an available counter top and adequate ventilation for their strange pourings . . .
After a long two hour wait, the time the Pandorica device opens . . . eek!
The strange creature emerges from its lair . . . nice detailed skin!
And we have a new born balloon in foam! Yea! Now to let it rest overnight before it meets with Mr. Bandsaw and Mr. Belt Sander . . .
Meanwhile at the church bazzar, the elves found a neat Altoids box . . .
Another mystery! Once shaken the box gave off a strange military metal sound . . .
A box of 1/200" scale soldiers! Hmm . . . I wonder if they want to join the Navy, the destroyers are pressing crew this month!
Glad to see things are still moving along despite the holiday hijinks.
I hope to get some time in myself this week after a months layoff.
The Windbags are looking good, and I also look forward to seeing that carrier of yours finished Andy.

well i was inspired by the bomber painting contest but i couldnt get done in time. but i am finally progressing on the awesome early b-17s clipper sent me, a 1/200 scale b-17 model im moding for a game piece, and the wonderful gotha go229s that clipper sent me.

"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
And turning to the late war kites - November project "Me 262" completed as well. More pics are in my album and will be posted in Painting Showcase section.

Lots of great new planes Andy!
I'm not that often here in the workshop, but I recognized, that you're very busy.
Great work, comrades!
Andrzej, I'll inspect those miniatures personally in less then 2 weeks.
Voilŕ le soleil d'Austerlitz!
Hi Nightbomber, I also looked through your album. Nice paint work on all 8 fighters. Interesting choice of topics to do at the same time, early war and late war.
A couple more WIP pictures of my Do-217 which didn't get done for the bomber contest - it looks like it will get done this week...
Top-down view of the squiggle pattern - it's about halfway done - the gloss is from the Testor's Glosscote I sprayed prior to applying the decals. When I finish the overpaint of the camo and do some weathering and detailing, I'll spray it with Dullcote to bring it all together.
And a side view - I must say this is a fun little project!
More to come later this week as I finish it up...
All the best,
Matt
The Dornier looks lovely, Matt. You are a master painter with the "snake like" pattern , comparing to my industrial-barbarian way of painting: 1. mask, 2. spray, 3. peel off..
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Looking very good so far Matt.

That is one great looking aircraft.
Looking good! Squiggly patterns at this scale are absolute nightmares.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
Love squiggle patterns, looking good Matt!
I got into real estate this last week... this one's a fixer-upper !
Picked this up at Warfare 2015, unpainted, still a little internal work to be done !
It's resin for 20mm figs but I don't know the manufacturer, though I have some thoughts
This guy's in for scale purposes and because he has just come off the workbench himself having been converted from a Liberation Miniatures M4 toting US Marine to a Remington Model 870 shotgun toting one... Want a door opened ?!
Sapiens qui vigilat... "He is wise who watches"
Love the fact you've gotten into real estate development, Dave! This looks wonderful... Almost makes me wish I still did some table-top miniatures gaming besides WoG...
I look forward to seeing it finished.
All the best,
Matt
Not only very well done Dave but your remark about a fixer upper made me laugh after seeing the shows about doing up houses.

Scratch build the main struts and make prop bosses.
Drill holes for tail struts, mgs, tailwheel
Dry run of tail struts, cropping to size. Staples make wonderful fine wire, cheap, strong, not too difficult to cut...
Some sanding, and underside detail nearly ready. Just needs green stuff for the tailwheel.
Green stuff to fill in gaps, then the hard bit. The supplied resin struts are far too brittle. So use them as a template for making versions in styrene.

What on Earth is this going to be, Zoe? I don't recognize it at all......but it looks pretty exotic!
Looking forward to seeing more...
All the best,
Matt
I used the Amiot 143M as a test of some construction techniques, I didn't think I could get this one in in time - but having learnt, it's not as difficult as I thought it would be. Not easy though!
It's a Farman 222.2. Not quite as unbelievably ugly as the Amiot, but on its way. A little bigger than a B-17, carried about the same bombload - but quite a bit slower.
This model is in 1/72 (not mine), a bit larger than the 1/200 HBM Resin kit I'm building! It does have the right cammo for May 1940 though.
Well it's another new one on me Zoe but another fine one from you.
Rob.
"Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death."
Very cool, Zoe! I thought it might be French, as it did remind me of the Amiot, but otherwise I was clueless...
I look forward to seeing it finished
All the best,
Matt
That's shaping up very nicely, and a cracking choice of subject - I love the various French "flying brick" bombers....
My guess is the designer was on crack cocaine when he came up with this. Definitely something only a mother could love. That aside, it's going to be impressive when it is built
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
You'd think so, but apart from the push-pull engine pods it wasn't that unusual - the Amiot 143 and especially the Bloch 200 and 210 really share its good looks.... Oh, and mustn't forget the Breguet designs - they weren't built in any great numbers, but were hilariously ugly - the 413 especially looks like a fattened up cartoon aeroplane....
Even mother couldn't love that one: http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/bww1/br413/br413-1.jpg

To paraphrase a US Supreme Court justice, "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description 'ugly airplane', and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it."
Coming soon... the Jules Verne
OK, not so soon. This one will be a challenge.
Attaching the nacelles so they are at the right angle is going to be non-trivial. The supplied struts are far too brittle even for a display model, let alone something that will be used on the table. Even brass rod won't cut it (I've tried). This requires thought - perhaps steel from a steel can too.
The 223.4 though had a slightly different configuration (darnit). This one's the actual Jules Verne. Oh well, green stuff for the drilled holes, and make some new ones...
Anyway, wait for the glue to cure on the F.222.2, then chrome undercoat, then the chocolate-brown paint job, then detailing and decalling...

Three shots of my 'finished' Do-217 K-2 from KG100 - just waiting for delivery of my spinning prop discs from Aerodrome Accessories to make it complete
This was a fun model to make, and I'm sure there will be more Models from the Dark Side in my future...
I thought I would work up a quick how-to article on how I did the squiggle pattern on the upper surfaces - I'll try to get that posted later today.
As always, thanks for looking!
All the best,
Matt
Nice work Matt
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
Finished it today!
Painting the little 94th Aerosquadron Markings was a pain, next time I think I will just look around for some decals instead! I will post some pictures with better lighting in the SPAD XIII painting section tomorrow at some point.
The plane is historically accurate on top and from below, but the sides proved difficult, so it's close, but not 100% correct. I used this as my source for painting.
