Raining all day today so instead of playing a game - I'm writing up one I played last time it rained all day !
As the title suggests this is a truly random game - All aircraft types were selected by dice roll, which plane I piloted, who was being bounced, start positions & altitudes.
The entente were bounced, all rolls unexpectedly produced Camels; The Germans ended up with multiple types !
Runners and riders:
Three camels on patrol piloted by: Lt Sid Eaton (Brown's - AI), 2Lt Oliver Howe (hearts - AI), 2Lt Clive Cunningham (Barker - flown by me!) ended up as tail end Charlie ! Around them appear the Germans
Albatros D.Va of Ltn Richard Schlimpen appears at 11 o'clock...Fokker E.V of Ltn Herbert Scneider at 10 o'clock...Fokker Dr1 of Ltn Kurt Wiessner at 8 o'clock ... Siemens Schuckhert D.III of Ltn Ernst Kopka in at 7 o'clock. All came in from the left !
As Wiessner dives into the attack Cunningham reacts..Tommy gets the first crack but no harm done
Schneider's E.V dives in next causing a modicum of damage to Eaton's Camel
Then it all gets a bit frantic ! Schlimpen dives his Albatros in; his guns jam on his long range shot at Howe. Schneider joins in at close range but his guns jam too..! Eaton hauls back on the stick and hammers Schlimpen at close range - plywood splinters everywhere !
Not to be left out Wiessner in the Dr.1 gets in a long range poke at Howe too !
Then just as suddenly everybody is out of arc and looking to get back into the fight.
As the Schlimpen immels his Albatros Cunningham is on him from below - his accurate burst smashing into the cockpit area and wounding the German pilot
Schlimpen is lucky as he pulls the Albatros out of the Immel as Howe tries for a measure of revenge - his shots cause no obvious damage..
meanwhile Wiessner's Dr.1 takes on Eaton's Camel - both pilots are wounded but the Dr.1 comes out on top as the Camel takes more damage and his guns jam.
Schlimpens Albatros is really in trouble as two camels are now behind him looking for an opening..and the third is closing fast - hammer and anvil ? - but he's lucky again as the first incoming rounds hit nothing vital. His luck is mixed with Cunningham's burst that makes his guns jam.
A near collision as Wiessner charges in head on with his Dr.1, guns blazing, it seems to put both the shooters off and no damage is done but it's too little too late - the Camels go to work and the Albatros is set on fire - already the damage is too great and it staggers into its death dive !
Wiessner's Dr.1 is becoming a real nuisance but thankfully his guns jam when he shoots up Howe's camel !
As the Albatros falls away the Camels seek a fresh target
Kopka's SSD.III gets into the fray - a little late - and is given a warm welcome by Howe who really has his dander up !
Cunningham takes advantage of Wiessner's jam and slows the pesky Dr.1 with a burst straight into the engine.
Eaton is lucky - he catches Wiessner's Dr.1 as it Immels and puts a heavy long range effort into it even as the E.V latches on to him at close range but fortunately it causes no significant damage
Severely damaged and wounded Wiessner breaks off and dives away out of sight - It's now a three on two - Kopka Immels his SSD.III back into the action and meets Cunningham and Eaton who did the same thing !
He gets in a solid close range shot on Eaton's Camel causing enough damage to knock him down - Eaton cannot return fire (wounded and on a stall !) but Cunningham's shot is equally deadly - Boom !
Schneider's E.V is already committed to his return pass, he gets another ineffectual squirt at Cunningham, then it's time to quit the fight !
Eaton's Camel SD / WIA / 1 Kill
Cunningham's Camel RTB / 1 Kill
Howe's Camel RTB / 1 Kill
Schlimpen's Albatros SD- FLM / WIA / 0 kill
Wiessner 's Dr.1 RTB / WIA / 0 kill
Kopka's Siemens Schuckert D.III SD-EXP/ 1 Kill
Scneider's Fokker E.V - RTB / 0 Kill
It was a fun game with all the random decisions - surprisingly the Camel's owned it but that's the way the cards fall sometimes.
