Default Not quite what you expect in a front garden!

The family (and me ~ aka taxi driver)!
recently had a week in deepest darkest Cornwall,
superb week sunshine every day...how lucky was that ?
    well it is England...

We stopped in Perenporth, did the usual tourist stuff,
Lands End, St Micheals Mount, The Eden Project, Lizard point etc etc

One of the 'days out'...on route to one of the many 'sites' to be seen
and as i follow the road around the corner...what do i see....

Well naturally we (well me) just had to stop and make a closer inspection.

After about ten minutes stood in awe...the owner 'Barry' wanders out from his house,
any way over an hour later, and much discussion it turns out he has a MarkII spit
at Blackpool aerodrome as well...now that's just damn greedy me thinks...
with just a hint of admiration as well.

For interest ~ if you want the Mark IX for a small sum of £34,000 ~ it's yours!
guess you need a garden big enough as well though....!

For those who are interested ~ google 'spitfire corner' the details are all on the site.

Barry sells hand drawn pictures ~ i weakened and bought two ~
one of a Hurricane on final approach wheels down & one of four Lancs in formation...

Barry also has a large range of postcards of WW2 aircraft for sale...details on
    Barry Wallond ~ www.wallond.com

Something slightly different but wonderful to see.

    Enjoy...

Well spotted Simon - will take a look at the links you suggest.

Barry may have to move his other Spitfire from Blackpool Aerodrome if it closes to traffic completely. I thought this had happened already but Squires Gate is still listed as an airfield in this year's Pooley's Guide.

Glad you had decent weather for your trip too. Never been to the Eden Project but my Mother has and thought very highly of it

I assume it's unflyable, but is it a real spitfire, or a mockup?

This is a replica. Marked up as a No.308 "City of Kraków" Polish Fighter Squadron Mk IX
26 Aug.1944 Spitfire IX PL279 (ZF-Z) F/Lt Wandzilak. Armed recce: evening, shot down (by ground fire) while attacking MT, (pilot) safe after baling out east of Rouen. (walked back to lines and returned to action - with prisoners!) http://www.polishsquadronsremembered...08_losses.html
Here is some info on the pilot F/Lt, Later Group Capt, Stanislaw Wandzilak OBE, DFC, AFC who also flew with 303 & 315 Sqn.

I suspect Barry's other Spit may also be a replica.

    Oh - nothing special.

Most Germans have some Panzerfaust in the basement and an 88 in the front garden.

This Spitfire replica seems to be in a good condition.

A family friend lives in Grundisbrough which is in Suffolk and the last time I visited them the neighbours had the front end of a McDonnell F-4J (UK) in their front garden.

I think they may have dispensed with this cockpit now and Newark Air Museum has it on display.

Now, if I wanted to be Brutal and Needlessly Sadistic: Find out what sort of carrier bags he uses for his minis; get some identical to those, and put _SoG_ minis in them; then go to a con or other event he's attending with his minis, and when he isn't looking, swap them around; then wait to see his reaction when he opens the bags and sees Sails staring back at him.... :)

It would be a very expensive joke to carry off.
He has one of those huge KR metal safes on wheels to transport his toys.
I hate to think what one of those duplicated might cost.

    £130 empty!
I already had more than six standard KR boxes, with foam trays, to slide into it.

I'm really happy with it - it holds most of my Central Powers planes

    Well that's a relief Tim.
