    Default Reporting for duty!

Hello all, just reporting in to say Hi!

I've not played the game yet, but saw it played at the IPMS Avon last month, and decided that I must give it a go! I've got some goodies coming through the post, so should hopefully be able to play this weekend.

Expect a bunch of stupid noob questions once I start playing for real

Welcome to the Aerodrome Ian from Derbyshire. The sooner you get playing the better - you will soon be hooked like the rest of us.

Anything you need please feel free to ask: The Aerodrome is global and very supportive towards new players. We definitely don't do noobs - never sussed what that means although my PC gaming history prior to discovering Wings of Glory dates back to 2000! No questions are stupid - however insignificant you may feel they are. It's great to have you with us anyway

    PS - Are you into WW1 / WGF or WW2 / WGS?

There is no such thing a a silly question Ian. Only the one you don't ask.
We all had to start somewhere. and the best place to start is in the Mess with a pint in your mitt.
See you down there for a chinwag later.

Welcome aboard the drome. Glad our demo at Thornbury got you interested. I'm sure Chris (Boney10) will be along shortly to tell you of opportunities to play locally.

It's your round in the mess by the way.

Ian - quick one for you if you would like an Avatar (aircraft displayed with your name & details.)

See Settings in the top right hand corner of the page (scroll up to the top) then locate Avatars on the left hand side of the Settings page. Choose from a number of WW1 / WGF aircraft or if you prefer there's WW2 / WGS aircraft as well under the same option. Great to hear you are making a start with WGF anyway - I enjoy playing whenever the chance to do so arises though I play WGS full-time

Welcome Ian, glad you enjoyed the Thornbury demo.
The weekly meets at the Mall are in a bit of limbo at the moment, but if you fancy a game we are starting to visit the Bristol Biguns on a Sunday evening at Iron Acton. If close enough drop me a pm for details.

    Welcome from Orrygun, Ian.

Found some locals here in Portland and watched their game for a couple of hours on Sunday.
Quite interesting to see something that wasn't all solitaire and AI for once.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I've played a number of games using the basic rules and discovered that it's possibly one of the simplest games I've ever played. Perhaps the noob questions will come when I start on the advanced rules

Bienvenue Ian from Brittany France. In answer to your question if you are comfortable with the basic rules try a sortie or 2 using the more advanced. As you can see from the Forum members have contributed idea to create a selection of House Rules which in a lot of cases enhances the game play. The important thing is to have fun playing

Hello Ian, hope you are well today. The gaming mechanics are what's simple about Wings of Glory producing a game which flows nicely and can be very versatile IMHO. Not packed full of dice rolling at every juncture which disrupts the game ... again ... and again or has a gameplay to it that just goes off into the sunset before anything happens! For the versatility of this game take a look under WW2 Missions at the one called Circuits and Bumps. Loads of Members have contributed stuff that is all about learning the game whilst having loads of fun with it on the way. See the game in motion from Gloster Gladiator circling a tree to Lancaster attacking a dam. There is even a large four engine jet in there!

You will inevitably find yourself asking questions when you reach the Advanced Rules stage - please x 3 ask us if you are not sure. Sometimes the Rulebook does not phrase things clearly or all that well: Learning from expert level Members on here for me has been the pleasant and fun alternative - as located all over Europe and the UK as well as the United States and Australia.

BTW - Somebody has finally explained to me what all this noob business is all about ... Welcome to a noob free game - you are one of us now

Easy to learn, and years to master Ian.
Think of 3d chess where the pieces change in strength and movement ability from game to game, whilst the winning conditions constantly change, and you have a rough idea of what you are into.
    Fly safe.

Here is another quick thought based on what the WingCo advises above: Solitaire sessions.

When devoid of opposition another versatility factor of this game compared with others is you can play it alone. One friend has even likened it to skydiving - best enjoyed in a group but can be just as amazing on your own. Play often is my advice if you can as Solitaire games have IMHO been my greatest learning opportunities - ready for when up against live opposition. If you take a look at that Circuits and Bumps thread Gloster Gladiators flying around trees may sound a bit Billy No-Mates but you soon find out what I learned from this exercise ... Scroll down the page a bit and there's an instance where I got myself out of a complete pickle and shot the opposition down within 2 Turns flying a Gladiator
