Can do. Yesterday was my 25th wedding anniversary, so I didn't have much time to work on captions. I'll take a few minutes now to do an intro of the first scenario.

Oh, and thanks again to Flying Helmut for this wonderful Brumowski!

Some of the gamers appearing in this evening's festivities: Will, Todd, Mike, Paul, Anthony. Not pictured are Bill, Kirk, and yours truly.

Our first game of the evening started out as a three on four, with three Austro-Hungarians facing off against four A-gun Hanriots.

Bill, on the far left, is up against two HD.1s. It's his first game, so I guess they wanted to make him feel welcome.
Mike and I are trading shots on the right.

Bill's Aviatik is smoking. And I planned well this turn, luckily I had an Immlemann in slot three, so I have come up behind my foe.
At bottom center, Kirk, arriving late, comes in as A-H reinforcements!

    Takka-takka-takka!

The crew, sans me. Notice Anthony's damage card. The first of many crew hits that would come into play that evening.

    More later...

Great shots John, I will hopefully be flying a Guntruck repaint Albatros I won in the Drome raffle at the Doncaster meet this week end.

    Nice intro John.
I await the unfolding of this mission with interest.

Sorry for the delay. Lets see if I can add for few more during what remains of my lunch break.

The battle was spread across the table. While I was tempted to tangle with the mottled green Hanriot, I thought I'd head toward the center and catch someone offguard. Oddly, Kirk followed me in his Aviatik. I though he might hang back and try to dogfight Capt Willard, but he didn't.

A Hanriot goes boom, while Kirk and I head for Paul's Hanriot.

I believe during much of this, Anthony in his two-seater has been shooting Todd, because the silver Hanriot is no longer in the fray. Also, it appears Capt Willard has brough down an Aviatik.

I've lined myself up for a nice shot on Paul, without getting return fire. As an added bonus, he is now on fire, too.

There is some maneuvering for position, but we have the numerical advantage.

And then we get lucky. A double pilot hit brings down Paul, and Mike takes enough damage to end the encounter.

Next up, three Central Powers machines go on a ground attack mission against...

    ... four HD.1s and a SPAD VII.

I will say this, there was one section of the map board that seemed particularly bloody that evening.

What a superb gaming mat you have there ... I'm really liking the way that enhances the game

Is this a regular FLGS fixture for you then or was this just a one-off event? Really missing Gaming Night down at my local FLGS in the UK - shop pulled the plug on this in June and has not replaced it since ...

Yes, we've been doing this at the LGS for over four years now. Our next game is next Monday, so I should probably finish this AAR before then.

We Central Powers planes decided to break left, and sweep around from the side to do our ground attack. Unfortunately, the left me in a vulnerable position, as quite a few enemy planes were now heading my way.

And in the wink of an eye, two planes went down. One of the Hanriots pulled the explosion, and a CP plane took a double pilot hit.

I joked around saying, "I'm not going to fly over that way, that area of sky is much too dangerous." I should had listened to myself. Down I go with the dreaded pilot killed.

There was some discussion about allowing the CP planes to respawn, but... that area of sky really was dangerous!

So, with the three original attacking planes down we had an obvious winner, and called it an overwhelming victory for the Italians.

Next up, two Handley Pages with an SE5a escort...

...must avoid a flight of SSW D.IIIs and do a bomb run.

That sure was a deadly encounter John.
I wonder how the HPs will fare?

As I recall, the bombers came in at two different altitudes.

Also, I think I was the only one close enough to bomber 3 to make an attack on him.

We traded shots, and I was soon smoking. Fwiw, I doubt he actually hit me, it was probably due to the ersatz oil being used in my rotary.

Somewhere below me there is an explosion. One of my compatriots has been shot down.

And there's a rarity! My smoke turned to fire. Oh, joy!

And that, in turn, brought me down. In the meantime, the bombers are lining up for their run.

One HP has dropped his bombs, but the height is enough that it appears they will overshoot. And, another D.III goes down.

Oh! Exciting! Lots of damage, and someone has an explosion!

That cleared the air. And as you can see, the bomb has just barely clipped the target.

Given the little time left that evening, and the number of planes against him, we didn't think Todd stood a chance at coming around and surviving to make a run, but as people were packing up, he played some moves in lightening mode, just to see what would have happened.

Had this been "for real", I think I would have said "you've moved off the map, game over."

    Lined up...

    Bombs away!

And... it's a miss. Had he played a stall when he dropped, it would have been a hit.

    FIN.

Great pictures - really made me want to get on with my HP400s, but they're WAAAYYYY down the list!

Thanks for this next installment and commentary John.
Looks about par for my bombing over the years. One near or partial, and one miss for every one that actually scores a direct hit.

Good lord... but those Giants sure take up a lot of space! Certainly whetting the appetite for the upcoming release... hopefully in the near future!

It does seem like our Austro-Hungarian allies will need some help the next time they're in the air. Wonder if we could spare a Jasta or two from the Eastern Front.

Those bombers really make the fighters look like gnats on a horse.
Been thinking about upping my Kickstarter to both versions of each but am not sure my table could handle them, especially the Zeppelins.
    Great pics. Love your mat.

Thanks, and yes, those Zepps do take up even more table space.
