Thread: A Higher Call Build

  1. #1

    Default A Higher Call Build

Could not resist a tribute pair.

Resin Me 109 and B-17 were in my box of "spares" and had to do some battle damage . . . now to keep the elves from "fixing" the damage!

They made it home thanks to a gallant German ace . . .

    Major damage . . .

Kinda fun to add battle damage!

Strange wing man! An amazing true story well worth the read: "A Higher Call" by Adam Makos

Tomorrow I will make the prop disks and the one feathered prop. Sleep beckons . . .

They certainly give the feeling of the event Dave.
How are you intending to display them?

What a stunning pair, Dave! And I agree about the battle damage - it looks great and I bet it WAS fun to do, for a change...

Like Rob, I look forward to seeing how you plan to display them.

    All the best,
    Matt

Let me add my congratulations, Dave. Remarkably evocative models.

It's amazing the amount of damage one of these B-17s could (and did) sustain and still bring their crews back to the barn.

Wow, the damaged B-17 came out great and looks even better than an intact one.

Hmm, that's what we need.... a whole new line of miniatures for damaged planes! Once you take half damage, you have to replace you miniature with the damaged version. It's only twice as many miniatures to buy, (maybe paint), and store.

They make a superb diorama set piece David . my compliments to the elves.
Are the elves available for hire or do they work the dreaded Zero Hours contract ?

I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings

No problem, the elves have a bench of their own and take on all kinds of projects, they are busy now with a request for Helldivers and Assault Gliders but are getting ready to do some pouring . . .

Another superb piece of modelling from Clipper!
Very nice thought to recreate this event.
Watch out in the Officers Club section for some pics about Franz Stigler & his private ME 108 I saw in a Museum last Saturday.

Did this a couple of years ago with a broken FUD Shapeways model . . . came out cool, so I had to make a normal one in the same colors . . .

i think the damaged areas on the b17 needs to have some black carbon scoring or something to indicate the damage better. a little smoke maybe from the dead engine?

    Otherwise, great work!

Just going by the artwork: That hole above the left wing needs filling in.

Yeah, being the historian I feel your pain, but being an artist at the same time it's the sense of damage I was interpreting. Meanwhile the reality is the holes were bubbles in the resin . . . kinda handy way to use up a rejected model . . . pick your path. It now resides with my Lady be Good

I rather like that you enhanced the rejects 'defects' to make it 'airworthy' again, Dave! Love the old artistic license caveat...

Keep up the inspirational work, my friend!

    All the best,
    Matt

Watch out guys! Do not mistake yourselfs with David's nice avatar and lovely elves! I can imagine his sadic smile while cutting the B-17 down and making bullet holes all over the place in the fuselage. His stylus is capable of doing horrible things... Keep your kites safe at night!

Besides that, great job David! It's horrible to even think in being inside of a B-17 that received that much damage.
    Thanks

    Nick

Wonderful work, Brother. I love the coloring.

Sue and I were talking about the painting contest. I encouraged her to enter, doing this very B-17. Ha. You beat us (her) to it.

I say go for it, mine predates the contest and the elves are knee deep in the hoopla for the IJN and others, so no contest work at this time : )
