Thank you to everyone for your messages so far - hope you are enjoying the drinks. I joined the Aerodrome in February 2015 around the same time as I first played Glory WW2 / WGS and the last six months have just been absolutely excellent. Entertainingly amusing and fun at times with serious lessons learned at other times ...

    THANK YOU ALL!!!

Quick story that this has reminded me of: This takes place in The Granby Arms, Uppermill in Saddleworth. In December 2003 my interest in World War 2 aviation had just begun and not long before then I was involved in flying aid around Central America. Hurricanes MITCH and IVAN had followed one another in quick succession through the region earlier on during 2003 but to the locals this appeared to mean that I had been earning lots of danger money flying some pretty old and rickety-rackety single engine aircraft ... Well no and yes but there I was still in one piece in The Granby Arms which had been my local pub for nine years.

It reaches the same locals' attention that I appear to be building a Spitfire ... Which I was indeed - an Airfix 1/72 Scale Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX back at home. But in the same manner as the danger money / old crates story spread like wildfire so did me building a Spitfire to display in nearby Saddleworth Museum. I had no knowledge of any of this until the day I downed tools from building this Spitfire kit and thought about enjoying a quiet pint down the Granby. Upon my arrival there one of the more boisterous locals comes up to me and loudly but enthusiastically asks me if it is true that I am building a Spitfire back at home? To which I replied yes I was ...

This causes the same guy to come out with: 'A Spitfire - a real Spitfire in Uppermill! Where the buggering f**k are you going to park it lad??!'

Everyone of course is rolling on the floor laughing - even more so when I calmly respond with: 'It's only a plastic one. It's not going to be able to fly anywhere!'

Very soon afterwards I am ROFLMAO too so I bought this guy a for cracking one of the best jokes I think I have ever heard. Unfortunately that Spitfire Mk IX was one of three aircraft which was DBR (damaged beyond repair) by Pickfords Ltd during the house move away from Uppermill to Derbyshire back in December 2009. Also written off with it were a 1/72 Scale Academy Grumman TBF-1 Avenger and an Airfix Chance Vought F4U-1 Corsair though the latter has since been replaced ...

    Travesty!!!

Thank you Sir. It is great to know that all is not lost. Next time I find myself up at East Midlands Airport I'll have to take a walk to Castle Donington Co-op before jumping on the Skylink bus home to see if they sell Lancaster Bomber there.

Brilliant news everyone ... Followed by the Co-op in Castle Donington stocking Spitfire Real Ale too but according to them they have never stocked Lancaster Bomber. Today's Southern Air Cargo Boeing 777F parked at EMA was an interesting one so went up to see that and called in at Co-op on the way back home.

However failing adequate supplies of Spitfire Real Ale unless everyone who has got some clubs together / Lancaster Bomber there is a new recommendation on the scene: Hoegaarden.

I gather that this white beer is absolutely LETHAL ... But maybe worth a try on the basis of celebrating 2000 Postings!

    Cool 2,000th Posting.

2,000th Posting - we did it. Ignore the previous entry that said 2,000th Posting and something to do with a flypast to mark this milestone ... Then Sweet F A happened because I wasn't feeling well again!

THIS is officially my 2,000th posting as marked with whatever everyone's drinking as with the exception of Ben - twit - we all appear to still be here

Have to apologise about the Wings of Glory Flypast idea which looked excellent on paper but as the research and calculations intensified throughout December 8th 2015 I started to realise that only one type of aircraft would be able to fly in formation successfully with Avro Vulcan XH560. This was just the tip of the iceberg and by the time I decided that December 9th's flypast was off: Blown a gasket with all that planning and geometry I was not feeling well again.

BUT: We cannot have a 2,000th landmark Posting that just says FANTASTIC IDEA Followed By F**k All can we? So this Posting says EVERYTHING BUT

Question Interesting Bar Conversation ... Who makes what of this?

Well here's quite an interesting conversation topic but I had no idea where to post this. Also didn't want to start a new thread as I didn't want to waste space. So definitely one for the bar with a large crowd of people present ... Was there ever a World War 1 pilot from Australia with the surname Riley - even better was there ever a famous Australian pilot during WW1 whose surname was Riley?

The reason I am asking is that a young woman I know in Brisbane is currently having repeated dreams and visions when she is asleep that she is a World War 1 fighter pilot. About a year ago she made the discovery that her Great Grandfather fought in World War 1 but didn't get as far as what he actually did. Then around six months ago the dreams and visions started which she describes as like a silent film but not of the quality which was around back then. Having never really been interested in either of the World Wars prior to now she claims that these have begun to teach her things like Entente and Flanders because of their strength and intensity.

My first question to her was Snoopy - could she see Snoopy in her mind whenever this goes on? She says no but has the distinct impression that what she is flying is single seat with two machine guns mounted upon the top of the engine cowelling. The bullets fire through the twin-bladed propeller. The aircraft is also blue but serves on the Entente side ... On her side are several aircraft which are green or lighter coloured with RFC markings on them (I taught her about these soon after this all began happening.) Some of the Entente aircraft have more than two engines and more than two persons on board. Interestingly there are no Entente triplanes. So what Central Powers (also taught by me) aircraft do these dreams and visions feature?

Hard to tell she says though the nastier piece of work appears to be a single seat monoplane compared with other biplanes which most commonly appear to have tear-shaped tails and the wings have rounded edges. She has described a triplane but not the obvious one: It is red but there is too much white on it for it to be von Richthofen which only appears when she's feeling stressed. My next question related to what tasks she feels she has been assigned to when in the air and suggested to her reconnaissance or balloon busting? Her reply was long patrols where she feels the need is to establish or maintain air supremecy or maybe reconnaissance tasks are mixed in with this primary feeling at times too. Finally I asked her if she feels that she is having some sort of premonition? The answer is no but rather than annoying her like they had done before she spoke to me about these dreams and visions these are now intriguing her.

What I have not yet told her is about the Eindecker E.1 monoplane or that the biplanes involved sound like Albatrosses. I am also amazed given the number of psychologists who reckon that we all actually dream in black and white that the Fokker DR.1 description was so clear. I'm sure that by now she will have looked up Baron von Richthofen and seen the colour scheme which he was famous for using for herself but she describes more white being involved. I would also like to challenge this black and white dream theory from when Delta Airlines still operated Boeing MD-11s and I dreamt of being in command of one which had to divert to Bangor, ME. The next stage I am at with this is asking her to draw what she perceives she is looking at in these dreams and to take note of any clear phrases / names / instructions and in what language she can identify these appearing in - if possible.

Danielle noted how the dreams she was having in particular intensified when she was promoted two months ago - great news but she had to work hard to get there. Since when things appear to have abated slightly but as they did so she thought she saw Les Cruces on a rooftop which she flew over. Also Suippe figured in another vision and this location is real - the Battle of the Somme was fought in this area of France.

So ... Are there any views or is there any assistance which anyone would like to offer on this subject because I TBH am quite stunned. Definitely one for the bar though rather than creating a new thread ... Also definitely it appears nothing sinister like a premonition. Maybe just one hell of a coincidence? Unless Danielle is on the verge of making a discovery about one of her now-deceased relatives as like myself she never grew up with Great Grandparents or Grandfathers figuring in the equation.

Big to everyone for your congratulations throughout this thread and especially to those messages sent to mark chalking up 2,000 Postings. Hope everyone's enjoying those drinks

There are only two pilots by the name of Riley listed in any of the Air Force 'Ace' lists (five or more kills) of WW1 - neither of them Australian...

    1. Alan Incell Riley - Lieutenant RFC (born in London in 1898) 5 victories flying a Bristol Fighter (so obviously a top chap...) but being as there is no reference to a rear gunner in your friends dreams - I think we can rule this one out
    2. George Raby Riley MC. DFC - Lieutenant RFC (born in London 1899) 13 victories flying a Sopwith Camel which would match the twin guns through the prop configuration..

There is an Australian listed called Rigby - Harry Alexander Rigby - born in Melbourne who flew an SE.5A (no twin guns through the prop though) - he was alive until 1972 when he died in Cambrian Hill Victoria - so he would be very traceable

A more detailed search could be done by reviewing the issued Aero Licences - but that would take a while as I haven't seen any lists in a user friendly format (certainly not that would include plane types etc.)

Don't know if any of that helps - but then again interpretation of dreams not my strong point....

Thank you very much - though this deepens the mystery as since my admission to rehab on December 18th 2015 these strange dreams have stopped.

It's now me whose having strange dreams about falling asleep in the middle of a game at Doncaster 2015 and waking up abruptly ... to discover I haven't. This happened soon after I started flying though where I woke up suddenly in the night thinking I had accidentally nodded off in the cockpit! But every time I talk about this to my consultant she reminds me that I am on new medication. Better medication more like!

Found it ... I think what I may have been foreseeing back then was that by the end of 2016 not only would she be playing Wings of Glory WGF but you would be too!

Still got those drawings I showed you and what sticks in my mind is just how vivid and real all of this seemed. But the dreams stopped in the middle of December and have since never returned

So ... The whole escapade could be argued to have been a premonition - but this time a positive one. A vision of things to come

May as well mention it in this thread now it has been revived that February 28th 2016 is the DH.4 Mug's 44th Birthday! Anybody with an empty or glasses - you know the score

Definitely visiting South Yorkshire Air Museum's legendary shop today for a diecast model or two: Last time we were there a nice Hawker Typhoon Mk Ib caught my eye and they had also just received four Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Historic Flight models including a 1/72 Scale diecast rendition of a Fairey Swordfish. If I spot any WW1 models which may be of interest I will pipe up about them later.

PS - I may as well blow my cover. Yell's friend whose sent her a RAP from 9,445 NM away is in fact me. After things didn't exactly work out with the last friend I introduced to the Aerodrome both of us decided to avoid bigging this fact up - so Danielle (Yell) if you see this in time what are you drinking and where's your glass

OK but you said it. Not me!

Happy Birthday for today and don't go spending the house down at the shop! Drinks wise I am easy - vodka and coke

The DH.4 Mug - a joke another Member made about me on another thread ... Dave! Absolutely no offence taken at the time in fact this really did make me laugh

    Very nice model indeed Barney.
It just reminded me about a question I wanted to raise seeing the red painted tin fish.
An Ex FAA friend of my late fathers told me that red signified a practice torp. Is there any truth in this or was it just his memory playing up?

Scanned about for you Rob, his memory may not be faulty: Though I have also seen Red & Yellow usage reversed I came up with this:
Yellow for practice, Red for show, Black for live. Which would explain the red nosed torp on display flights ?

    Sounds very possible Dave.
Thanks for looking into that for me.
All the Torps on my Swordfish will be black then.
