Is that in the rules? Because if you are measuring from center-post to anywhere on the base, there would be a certain narrow range where a scout could hit the giant, but the giant couldn't hit the scout, due to the fact that the giant's post is further from the edge of the base than the scout's.

But the firing point from a Giant is a dot on the base, NOT the central peg...................

actually it usually works out the other way around between bomber ans scout. the bomber can shoot the scout but the scout cant shoot the bomber. mentally ive always chalked this up to the bomber being a more stable gun platform then the scout (ie tighter bullet grouping being effective out to a longer range).

How would that work? All the scout needs to do is reach the edge of the bombers base, while the bomber needs to reach from the gunnery dot to the scouts base. I can possibly see a blindspot of sorts for the bomber shooting, but if the bomber can hit the scout, the scout (if it has the bomber within the firing arc) will always hit the bomber.

usually happens with the front gun which has its dot nearer the edge of the base than the center post of a scout. next time it happens ill take a pic or ill stage a bomber and scout to show how it can happen.

I think that's what Larry, supplemented.

There are situatuions when you're able to hit the Giant without getting return fire and being in is firing arc.

If you look at picture number 3, the scout ist still in range of the Staaken's rear gunner.

But if the the scout is able to hit the red marked zone on the bomber's base with the edge of the ruler, the bomber can't return fire, because the distance from his gunner position to the rear edge of the base/plane card is bigger then the MG position of the scout's MGs to the frontal edge of his base/plane card.

That's possible - only problem: the bomber moves & the scout moves / you have to plan 3 maneuvers in advance / etc...

So in general, while analyzing the bomber's weak point on it's big base/plane card, to hit the bomber without getting return fire, only with maneuvering, is possible but I'm shure you won't get into this position much often.

...and I'm shure too that the relationship between "bomber hits scout/without getting fire in return" versus "scout hits bomber /without getting fire in return" is very imbalanced. That's why you need a few scouts to hunt a giant.

I prefer the traditional methods: Set it on fire, kill the gunners, ram attack, let it explode, hope for gun jams, etc...

I know the issue, but will stay with just official rules of firing. That's life in the skies. Sometimes mg fire is not effective and we must carry on and live with that.

Ask Hedeby when he tried to take on 32 bombers at WMMS, well he got 8, in his Brisfit. If the bomber can't hit the scout put it down to scout/2 seater agility, bomber flying a set course and height and no acrobatic maneuvers and the gunner having to move the gun from side to side to try and get a bead on the scout (and we were playing with no altitude and static bombers!).

Such is life and the fun of the game.
See you on the Dark Side......

heres some pics i took today that show how this can happen. of course it cab happen the other way around if the scout is in just the right place coming in on the side of the bomber. it just seems to work out more often the other way around in the games ive played in. I think that everyone have experienced this when attacking a bomber.
I try to attack from 4 and 8 a'clock when going against a bomber just to get that "free shot". Hard though

I did not think that Caproni's could fly that high, Philip.

According to the Upcoming page on the website, Ares have postponed the release of the heavy bombers to February.

Some good news is that Ares had me ship all of the accessories to the different warehouse back in Dec and earlier this year. I was storing them until the Giants got closer to landing. So we can't be too far off now.

I'm not attending Cold Wars (though escaping for a day does sound intriguing), but I'm hoping to have them ready to go for HAVOC the first week of April. Sounds like this might be the case...

I received a notification from UPS that by the end of the day tomorrow I will have it package of about 3lbs.
Since I have not ordered anything lately and the origin only says United States, I'm going to guess my GIANT is about to land at this Aerodrome.

I have a couple bottles of home brew beer, a Samuel Adams Octoberfest, a couple Angry Orchard Hard Cider, a bottle of Kahlua in the fridge. Might have to go get some Schnapps to celebrate. Have some Pure Grain Alcohol and a bottle of Capt. Morgan Dark Spiced Rum on top of the fridge.

Lol you never know on the older kids ordering anything.

Very interesting, but it must be said that in this specific case it might also be due to inclination, not only to the fact that the Caproni is a multi-engine plane. Tis could also happen with fighters, as in the example below. The Aviatik is not aiming directly at the Hanriot, and this does not help - the Aviatik misses, the Hanriot hits.

yes the "angle of attack" definitely is a factor. this situation for fighters and 2 seaters is fairly common. i always chalk it up to firing with "deflection".
