Thread: Painting paper models

    Default Painting paper models

Has anyone painted their paper models?
If so, what paint did you use? I'm concerned about warping the paper with paint. I may give it a try, but wanted to ask experienced builders.
I'm not very good with photo shop, so doing it with the computer would take me a long time to learn.
    Thanks,
    Greg

Do you mean painting the white parts or painting it over?

There's no problem in using paintings. Acrylics are the best.

So, what exactly are you wanting to do?

If you want to trim up paper models after you build them (or during), you could use markers (Link: Zio Prudenzio Model Cards - My 5th Project - Albatros D.V - Schleich).

I have taken one of Zio's planes and Photoshopped it, too.

    The original Zio Prudenzio model:

And my adaptation for RCAF pilot Flight Lt H.J. "Snooks" Everard, DFC in 417 Sqn markings:

NOTE 1: This should have the Vokes filter tropical extension on the lower cowling, but I'm not a paper model designer, so that didn't get added in. It should look like this:

NOTE 2: I messed up the registration numbers too (Link: Desert Dual - Post 42): "... And in my rush, I picked the wrong mark of Spit, and put a Mk IX registration number on it. ..."

    That is masterful Mike.
Putting on Decals over existing ones I'm up to, but adding registration numbers at angles along the fuselage, and then getting them aligned when the model is folded into 3D, and also at the right height is beyond my skill.

    Thanks for the responses.
I think I wasn't clear enough in my question.
I am interested in painting the whole plane, not just the white edges.
I realize the photoshop would be a great way to do it, but my skills with that program are low and it would take a loooonnnng time to master it. I'm better with paint and decals. I know I could go shapeways, but I'm trying to keep my costs minimal.
BTW, very nice work on the Spit!
