Default OTTED Mission 14 - Flash Retrieves the Spy - 14th February 1917

Uncle cleared his throat "Well that's it in a nutshell gentlemen - recent recon photos have shown that the Hun is up to something some miles behind their lines - what it is we are not yet sure but the indications are of construction activity suggesting new bunkers and strong points are being built."
"How does that involve us sir ?" queried Lt Ben Downe
"I was just coming to that " responded uncle "The French have sent an agent to find out just what's going on - one of their best apparently - and it's our job to get them back in one piece. Word has it that they are ready and waiting so Lt Keye here will take his RE8 over to pick them up first thing and you and 2Lt Back will provide him escort" ....

It was still dark when they took off and headed for the lightening sky to the east, they climbed over the lines but drew no fire - from the ground they were probably still invisible against the dark skies of the west but most likely Archie was asleep - once over the other side they sunk a little lower and headed for their destination
It was barely light as they approached the rendezvous, a small village about five miles behind the lines.

Spy retrieved without too much damage to either side as it turned out - close call for Ben Downe but good old Claude saved his bacon and it appears that the Countess is a crack shot as well as a cracker !

My word. That girl certainly gets about a bit Dave. Last time I saw her she was cozying up to Willie von Klugerman.
What a stiring and gripping story of daring don't.
Something to talk about in the Mess for absolutely minutes.
Great story, great fight and great ending.

    Thumbs up

Top job there flash old chap!

Nice flying by your boys although I was a bit concerned when Mr Downe copped one.

Kaeti obviously has been in training with the French forces to produce such accurate fire. She would have had plenty of willing tutors no doubt.

Another great read. Love the placement of the cards to show the movement, not just the damage.

    The Countess!
I really must get my Blue Max DVD out of its shrink wrap.
(The VHS one is still shrink-wrapped as well)
Too many movies in the personal library ...

I saw "The Blue Max" in the theatre when it came out - a screen that big really does it justice.

Thanks Baz, that 5th kill still eludes Ben Downe and I really thought he'd had it that time too - a six point hit is scary - glad it wasn't close range !
Peg to peg shooting giving and taking as were my altitude rules; no one got a shot on for ages but when they did it got hot pretty quick - a cracking little game - thank you for that

Thanks Pete, some don't like it but I like to show the viewer the moves - how a plane got to where it was, particularly for the one I'm controlling, I find it also helps me with the AAR storyline. With changing camera angles it can be difficult to follow how a plane has moved and sometimes you'll wonder how a plane got an angle on a target. As I don't play on mats the cards stand out too. It can be a bit much sometimes when there's a lot going on but I can live with that. I also include the range rulers & damage cards for shots as it makes the action easier to follow & builds the tension.

As you know Dave, like you I include scores and range sticks and usually the last card played. However, your idea makes a lot of sense, and I intend to try and emulate your system in future, whenever I remember.

Excellent report there. Loved the names on the Entente pilots, still trying to figure out the CP pilot names. And of course the Countess got a ride on DonKeye's back safely home.

Yes I've made up all my chap's names - Stan Deasy was one of my favourites but he went west in another campaign - the Huns' surnames are real but I have mixed up the first names - in fact pretty much all the German AI names used here are those of real German aces sourced from a list on Wiki....some just sound a bit suspect !

He was lucky that when he came to he was pointing the right way for a quick exit. Think Claude had it covered if he wasn't but you never know with this game !
