A nice little display in The Tank Museum at Bovington which hosted a wargamers weekend on the 4th/5th July.
If you've seen the film the Tiger used in the movie is 131 from the museum

The show was excellent as usual and with the back drop of the real things featuring in various games it couldn't be better !

So if you're down Dorset way pop in and visit one of the best military museums in the country !

Very neat set of pics Dave.
Did you take part in any games?
Or was it just a bus man's holiday?

Mostly drooling over the tanks, other peoples games & a little shopping Rob. No WoG being played but one vendor had some so Ajay equipped himself with a couple of kites !

Bovington ... As in Dorset? I did have the place confused with Bovingdon which is one of the Holding Areas north of London for Heathrow-bound air traffic until I looked at a map of Dorset online.

Great photos there Dave - I am glad you enjoyed your visit.

Great looking display, though the "trophy" on the glacis is a bit gruesome.
We could have a lot more Fireflies if some "Not-made-here" brass hadn't nixed the project because they said the M4A2 76 mm gun had enough penetration....NOT!
Wish I could get there, but even if/when the wife and I travel to the UK, it will be way down the list of museums to see.
So any other pics you want to post, feel free, with thanks
    Karl

It's only a respirator & helmet sat on the light fitting Karl - looks effective though !
If you follow the link to the museum you can see loads of photo's of the exhibits in the museum on-line section

It's a great museum, and just a few miles from my parents house, so good for a getaway when doing my "dutiful son" bit!

I must try to get there more often.

Wargamers Weekend 2015? Oh, that is THE MUSEUM! Hope Czech museums will hold events like this one day. Very nice, very nice. Thanks for sharing.

Crawly Things with Guns are actually my first love.
Hopefully Ares won't get into that or SWMBO will have had enough.

There are so many museums I would like to see in the UK I fear I would need two months to see them.
(see the latter part of second sentence above)

    Thanks for posting, Dave.

I didn't know about the "Wargamer's Weekend" at all - shame, I would have been able to do one day of visiting this past weekend

Must bookmark their website for future show updates.

We have two tank museums here in Norfolk U.K. but I think they are both smaller than Bovington.

Been to Muckleburgh which is an interesting museum, but didn't know about the Norfolk Tank Museum. Cheers David.

It's been held the first weekend in July for years now - and been going since '99. I usually put something up but as there was so little interest the last few years and we've not got in with a table there I didn't bother this time - still, maybe see you there next year !

I bet Bolt Action was being played at this Wargamers Weekend event - this game can become very tank-orientated and there are even rules which enable aircraft to participate as well. Best scale to use I am advised is 1/72 Scale.

Tracks of War ... Or Tracks of Glory: I am amazed that Ares Games did not think of this idea ahead of Sails of Glory because it would IMHO work better in terms of gameplay and the speed at which the action happens. I do not know what the average movement speed of a tank is in MPH but it is definitely faster than the 10 to 15 knots of a large sailing ship. Plus tanks are much more manoeuverable too.

When I was young I used to have a board game based on tank battles called 'Advance' and what I remember about it the most was spending loads of time playing it. This proves how a Tracks of War concept could and in my opinion would work rather effectively ...

One of the other great Tank museums is the Land Warfare Hall at Duxford of course, the interconnecting vignettes are superb.

Not sure if there was but Warlord are always there in force so it is likely there was - had a go at this system a couple of years back and had some fun with it but once we realised it was more of a tactical dice game we abandoned it.
Biggest representation was the 'Battlegroup' series - the author was testing for the next release which will be the desert war, there was a Blitzkrieg game, a game based around the Son Bridge and someone had adjusted it for a Cold War game based on exercise they had done when in the forces in the 80's - that was done in 20mm on a huge table. Sorry no pics of that but you may find some on Battlegroup Souths fb page if they get round to putting them up !

I love the idea of tracks of war Dave, and it could even translate into WWI. I would love some rules for moving those tin cans.

Bovington would definitely be "eine Reise wert" if you have the opportunity! You Brits do a bang-up job on museums, everything from the Imperial War Museum to small regimental museums. Keep posting those pictures (or suggesting links to museum pics)

    All the best,
    Matt
