Nice one Neil.
Even better results than the real event. I guess that puts the Italian fleet out of the war then.

well done Neil . Looked to be a cracking game for all those involved. Got something similar lined up for Doncaster?

I see you're working nightshifts for your Origins AARs, Neil.
Your Taranto Mission was a full success.
Like you host it at Doncaster last year, the Mission setup was impressive.
Well done!
Voilŕ le soleil d'Austerlitz!
Looks like it was a great game. Were these 1/144 Swordfish or 1/200 scale?
Not *that* much better:
In the actual event: 1 BB destroyed (_Conte di Cavour_), 2 BB crippled (_Caio Duilio_; _Littorio_), 1 CA damaged (_Trento_), and 2 DD damaged (_Libeccio_; _Pessagno_); against 2 Swordfish lost. The Italians took many more hits, to be sure; but the British air force got swatted a lot harder as well.
Neil and I talked about a couple of things that would make this game easier to run and give it more eye candy. On the ease of play/running it front, I was going to make him up some base with numbers etched into them. This would replace the colored dot system he used at Origins. Some of the players had trouble telling the difference between some of the colors (like blue and dark blue). Also, replacing the colors with numbers would make it easier to look and mark things on Neil’s Game Master Sheet.
To add more eye candy to the searchlights, we talked about me cutting them out of some lightly blue tinted acrylic that I have. When cut, the edges virtually glow blue due to how the light is transmitted though the plastic. The etched damage ratings would also have this glowing appearance to them. I’m going to try and get some cut this week and I can post pics of them if you guys like.
Yes, we would like that, Keith, very much. Thanks.
All solid ideas.

I would certainly be interested to see how they look Keith.

Good ideas there, esp the if you are slightly colour blind as I am , shades of blue can be difficult. Well done lads

What an astounding coverage of the event Phil.
Did you actually get time to play any games?
Thanks for the superb overview.

Ares' website has a great AAR posted. Here is the link:

Fly to O'Hare in Chicago. Be picked up by charming couple of Italian and Chinese extractions. See Chicago - code for a lot of eating. Shop at a used bookstore with a huge selection on military history - huge. Drive to Origins together, stopping along the way for dining and a bit of tourism. Attend Origins. Eat at the food market. Spend a bit more time traveling and eating together before being dropped off at O'Hare for a return flight.

Great Ken is famous again, and we get mentioned in dispatches plus a plug for the site.
What more could one ask? Don't answer that!

Eric - you forgot one other activity for the Origins trip routed through Chicago....visit United Center to watch 2015 NHL Champions CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS defend their Stanley Cup title in a playoff game! How could you leave that out of the mix?
I stand corrected, Thomas.

Yes -- which is yet another sign of just how skullcrushingly inept the Italians were in WW2.
Also: Just looking at the game rules, I think the ships are a bit weak on hit-points, unless the Italians ships were so drastically undercrewed they couldn't perform basic damage-control.
it took me a while with some help i finally got my pictures posted http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/album.php?albumid=3441
The game was fun not accurate. With 2 hours there's not room for my original set of rules. So at night, most crews ashore or asleep, confusion, noise rec, very little in the way of damage control plus it was something else to slow the pace of the game down. We play tested this 4 times and each time modified the game to what we played at Origins. Now at Doncaster this year we are running OpPedestal with some 20 ships in convoy with an adaption to the Taranto ship rules. Not lon to wait but more along the lines of what you say was missing at Origins. With 3 hours we can do this.

Thanks for posting your pictures from Origins, Richard. Lots of good stuff there! And the castle shots at the end are pretty nifty, too!
All the best,
Matt
Nice pictures, Richard.

Just realised Keith...mines bigger than yours

Neil, it's not the size of one's banner that matters, but the quality of play it engenders.
