Thread: Derby World Championships 3rd & 4th October 2015

    Default Derby World Championships 3rd & 4th October 2015

At Triples we were approached by one of the Derby organisers asking if we would be attending again this year.
I answered in the affirmative and asked for two tables.
I was told they would put us down definitely for one and we would get the second table if they could.

So Mark in your diaries chaps, this is a couple of weeks after Doncaster so we have a few months yet.

But gave a think and let me know interest and which period to play if we only get the one table.
If we get two then it will be WW1 and WW2.

If possible I wouldn't mind having another Gotha bash , but I'm open to suggestions at this time.

I will ask for definite names at a later time

If we only get one table, how about WW1 on the Saturday and WW2 on the Sunday?

Second that. WW1 on the Saturday and WW2 on the Sunday, dependant on only having 1 table.

I will be there for one day over the weekend possible both prefer WW2 but would like to try out WW1

Too far away to be certain, but if I book a couple of days leave just before it, it should make me a definite!
WW1 for preference, but I need a lot of practice at WW2 (which I may have just demonstrated at Donnie a couple of weeks before!)

I should be free for one day Chris, but I'll confirm nearer the time.

Methinks we already have enough between us to do one anyway.

Know Castle Donington very well - neighbouring East Midlands Airport. Thank you very much for the information posted.

Its a definite yes from me - with my new watery based leanings... any chance of some sails action? if not what about something with Lancasters?

It did make a nice congenial ending to last years show when most of the punters seemed to have faded away by mid afternoon.

Hopefully we will drop by for a game on one of the days, possibly Sunday if it's WW2. I was too busy shopping at Triples as I was on a tight schedule, and when I passed by you were apparently up to your armpits in 7 yr olds anyway and fully engrossed!

If anybody has a 'City' Official Gaming Mat I've got a great one involving Lancasters that I would almost certainly like to be a part of. Only problem is that this would only suit relatively experienced players and would almost certainly not be suitable for a Public Participation game. The rest of the idea is far from boring - in fact technically the usage of more than one altitude peg would be cheating ... Any ideas as to what I am thinking and would this be possible if so?

CAN CONTRIBUTE: Everything required except for 'City' gaming mat (recommended) and one Lancaster aircraft.

Well, you have plenty of type to knock something up Barney - Berlin perhaps ?!

Are you thinking in terms of using the Dambusters on a dam next to the city, Barnaby?

Knocking this up is no problem - it's flying the Lancaster that is going to take time effort and training. Along with the gaming mat - I don't have any of the official mats just custom-made ones by myself.

Berlin ... not quite. Following in the footsteps of what actually happened at the time this job has to be done at low level: that was serious about the lack of altitude pegs this idea requires. Plus it does encompass 'new watery based leanings' too although on reflection I don't think I made this all that clear above. Large lakes especially ...

Although not fit for a Public Participation game this idea would be best flown by a number of aircraft but good old WGS has a version of this famous WW2 mission which is playable with just one aircraft if that is all we were to have available whenever this Scenario went live.

Yes - using the equipment available with the Avro Lancaster 'Dambuster' Edition special pack. Everything which would be required is included as is a guide about how to fly a dams-esque mission using all of the equipment supplied.

The City Gaming Mat requirement arises from the way that the sub-gaming mat which is again supplied with the Special Pack blends in perfectly with this gaming mat.

I am hoping to have my current transport crisis solved by Oct.
I am quite Happy to bring my Sails kit to put on a demo/ participation game, tables permitting.
We have to put on a Participation game as that is why we are getting tables and admission.
This also means we cannot do the Dam scenario of Barnaby. I agree here that the scenario would not be a good Public participation game.
I was thinking of doing something like this at Doncaster, but again I don't think it would work as a participation game.
Anyway, at the moment we can bank on one table which will be WGF/WGS a second table and we can see what we fancy

I fully understand this situation - thank you very much for that. Never mind, it looked good on paper didn't it?!

Hoping to attend this event as it's local to me so hopefully see you there

  33. #33

Thank you to my brave fellow airmen who have thus far resisted to lure of the waves - the sea is for ditching in, not sailing upon (If only that were true.... as another 100 gun British ship of the lines floats across from the shores of Amazon into my possession)

It's been easy to resist SOG Chris, as since Triples I have spent the cumulative debt of a small African nation on WW1 wings of Glory stuff plus I now have cold sweats every time I go on fleabay since picking up the last DVa I needed from WOW and a sealed Flight of the Giants. The ships will have to stay in dry dock as far as I'm concerned.

I will let you know once it has been confirmed how many tables we have.
Be aware though, I have now done four shows demoing sails and the response has been Luke warm at best for a participation game.
Wings does seem to have the pulling power rather than sailing ships.
However I will bring along the fleets to Doncaster for a trial for people wanting a go, from there we can see if the waters are warm enough for Derby

Good man Chris - have my eye on so many British Ships of the line I need to float some out and play.

WW1 obviously a good choice - scenarios including Bristol Fighters also a great choice

That sounds good Neil, although in your original post I thought you were just trying to shoehorn us into something.

Tim think of sails as clouds and ships as float planes that can't fly...no problems there.

LIKING this a lot ... After all if it wasn't for 1903 and all that the battleship would probably still be king!

I have to admit that its discussions like this that make me curious as to what playing Sails is actually like ...
