Thread: The Dutch Experience

    Default The Dutch Experience

    My first week in Holland

Six hours of darkness followed by light for eighteen hours. First night no curtains. Slept.very.little. There are no blinds in Holland.

Next morning a cup of coffee and off I went to buy curtains. It.got.slightly.better.

From my room I see trees. There are trees everywhere, lucky me. The birds don't fear people. Jackdaws, pigeons, blackbirds and ducks cross the city roads as if the city roads are theirs.

The entire Friday locked and waiting for the Internet experts to install it at home. Empty house and nothing to do. Getting crazy by the minute. I picked up my planes and transformed the empty bedroom floor into the misty channel.

In my cold rage the German pilots didn't stood a chance.

During that day nobody came for the Internet...

Saturday. Internet. A nice gentleman delivered me a box. Technicians?! You are the Technician my boy, as here in Holland there's no space for cry babies. Two hours deciphering instructions in Dutch. Frustration followed by an immense sense of success. Internet!!! Again connected to the Universe. I spent Sunday explaining a boardgame to my nephews through Skype. Thanks Science!

    Joaquim signing out for now.

I see a positive power there, Quim. Carry on, boy and remember: All is well that ends well.

Really glad to see you land here again, missed your antics and spirit. Rome wasn't conquered in a day, so give the poor country a chance! If you need anything let us know, the elves are asking as well. Cheers!

    Thank you, my friends.

I will give it a chance, of course, Dave.
How's your health? I hope its alright. There was a promise of a red triplane to be built over there, or am I confound it with something else?
    Some B-24's would be welcome.

Ah the triplane is in the pattern, currently there are 14 Zeppelins at 1/144 scale blocking the workbenches . . . they should be cleared out in a few weeks. Meanwhile a care package is coming together but it requires landing coordinates, PM me your addy and add any requests, the elves have been busy. Take care my friend!

A new life and new opportunities. As said before above, we're here for you if you need us.

If you are looking for B24s they can be had cheaply.

Maisto has them at 1/200 under Adventure Wheels, EXLR8 Tailwinds and Fresh Metal Tailwinds names. I hope you can find them, if not let me know.
    The B24 is 1/200, B17 is very close, others I don't know.

    Thanks Peter.
    They are truly 1/200?
    Where can I find them?

  11. #11

I found some at Amazon, some on ebay. Less than $10 each.

The B17 is slightly on the small side...1/220? Good enough for me. I bought 4 when waiting for the ARES B17 to come out.
I have 6 Liberators and they measure to 1/200.

I cut off the plastic wheels, putty the well and they are fine. The plastic glass parts are not tight fitting but that does not bother me.
I'll have to ask Karl what the stats would be for the various versions of the B-24..... Karl, you reading this?

...good to see you active again, Joaquim.

Maybe we should organize a Lend Lease Programm for the next Summer Con.

    The Dutch Beer Drinking Experience

Many beers. Different ones. Unknown. To taste. After drinking three different kinds I've decided to make a Comparative. Graduated from 1 to 7. To be known:

    1 - Pass!
    2 - Drink it if I must.
    3 - Drink it.
    4 - Buy it.
5 - Look for this one.
    6 - I'll always drink it.
    7 - I'll marry this one.

Armed with this ruler I've tasted the first one. 8.6 Bavaria beer. And the result is: Buy it.

And the second one. Perlenbaker. Strong. German. And the result is: Drink it.

    Soon, more beers.

Sven, I'd be happy to chip in to get Joaquim over to Prag for next year's event - keep us posted on the 'Continental Lend-Lease' situation as it develops!

Joaquim, your apartment looks lovely - granted it isn't Lisbon and what you had before, but as one of our most famous poets (Robert Frost) once said (and I'm paraphrasing here), you've chosen the 'road less taken, and that will make all the difference' - hang in there and remember (as others have said before me) - your friends on the Forum are here for you.

All the best as you get used to your new situation!

I would be happy to chip in a personalized box for keeping counters and chits into the raffle mix. Keep me posted on needs and plans, Sven!

And Joaquim, seriously, know that you really DO have a number of folks here who are happy to support as you need it! NO one wants to be a nuisance, but don't hesitate to let us know what we can do to make this time of transition work easier for you.

You really can't go wrong with Clipper Magic, you know

    All the best,
    Matt

I am sure you will start to acclimatize to Holland 'quim & once you find some WoG Players in your area you will start making new wingmen or woman.

I would also be happy to contribute to send you to Prague!

If I'm the Flying Dutchman, I'll surely give you the map for the gold mine, Dave.

The Dutch Experience - adding up

Couldn't care less about me. I even tried to speak with her, but her affairs were too absorbing. She wouldn't explain me where Lidl was...

Table!! Finally. Big. I love big tables. And who knows me well also knows why. The plane that is being used to seize the size of the table is indicative of that. It measures two inches. Give or take.

    Table!!! Big!!!

I'm presently seated in this wonderful sofa that costed 50 Euros at the Rataplan!! There is a part of my body that is really, really grateful to this sofa.

    Comfort. Check!
    Gaming table. Check!
    (Not necessarily in this order.)
