I have an event in mid August that they might come in handy for.

Yep, I seem to recall the KS estimate was October, so August is decidedly unlikely I'm afraid.

I received an email this morning from kickstarter ......

Ladies and Gentleman,
just a brief update to confirm you that the shipment of Rookie Bundles (Rules and Accssories pack and Airplane Packs) is now in progress.
The US warehouse is already shipping them right now; while the German warehouse is receiving product from the US tomorrow, and they will start shipping to you next week.
The Rookie Bundles are shipping to:
Rookie backers with the Rookie bundle only (no add-ons)
Any backer with "combo" pledge level (Rookie + Veteran, Rookie + Collector, Rookie + Player)
I look forward to provide you more updates in the month of June about the progress on the "Giants of the Sky" rewards proper, and to share with you more detailed info on the new contents designed for the Kickstarter rewards by our authors and illustrators.
