Book Title: Falcon of the Duce; Franco Lucchini, Ace of the 4 Stormo...
Author: C. B. Stevens
ISBN: B001NH3YS4
Category: Reference
Format: Paperback
Summary: This is one of many scenario books written for the Check Your 6! game system by Skirmish Campaigns. Though I've never played CY6!, the books are useful for any WWII air game. I've used it for other systems, and WGS is no different.
First there is a two page painting guide for Italian, Great Britain and US planes in North Africa and the Med. There are no pictures. Though the internet and/or other books would be more useful, it is nice to have it here with the other material.
Next are references. Nice for us grognards' next book order.
What follows is 10 pages of campaign history/details of the 4 Stormo. Where other titles in this line cover a unit or theater, this book detours greatly and focuses heavily on Lucchini.
Two pages of aircraft details and stats. Though they are focused towards CY6!, there's enough detail to convert them to WGS. A Westland Lysander or Short Sunderland anyone?
Finally, the main course - 16 scenarios involving Franco Lucchini over North Africa, Malta and Sicily. Each scenario has the setting, basic set-up, opposing forces, historical outcome and variable rules. Most scenarios need quite a few planes; got 8 Hurricanes? However, they in themselves are boiled down from the actual historical forces. So, lowering them again for WGS seems to still provide a fun result. The variable rules are a unique item to Skirmish Campaign books. Roll on a table to add additional forces or modify the situation - maximizes replay. As these scenarios mimic history, they are not necessarily balanced. Use of Ace skills in some format is suggested.
Overall a fun, useful book that is getting a lot of wear in my games.
