What do you do with your plane boxes ?
Do you use them to store / transport your models ?
If you use other storage / transport methods do you scrap or store them ?

Most of mine are scrapped as soon as I empty them. I usually keep one of each type to send on aircraft to other people but these are now almost all used up.

Anyone want any boxes? I have been told by SWIMBO that they, and the spare bits of foam from KR multicases have to go as they serve no purpose.. I say they will come in useful one day. Honestly
I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings
Coming down is the hardest thing
Scrapped, I have no place to store them and use KR multi-cases to transport
I junked all my WWI boxes because I keep my planes in a travel kit. I am not sure what I am going to do with my new WWII hanger though. I might keep them in their boxes as I will not have as many.
Here too. If anyone wants some boxes for their Shapeways planes I have them all and they are on their way out in the near future.
I don't save mine, either. They get displayed and played with, so there's no need for the empty boxes. I already have too many empty boxes from toy soldiers on display!:-)
All the best,
Matt
Immediately tossed, and preferably away from home. Remove evidence from SWMBO.
I keep all mine, and use them when sending out surplus minis to other folks.
Most of them are in the attic, boxed up in storage.
What can I say, I AM the hoarder next door!
I usually keep a couple just in case but all my Aircraft are stored in Keith's Aerodrome Accessories Hangers & a couple of old pick & pluck 40 K trays.
currently i store my a/c in them (very inefficient) but when i switch to trays i will still hang on to them.
Interesting split in opinions.
I currently only have about 4 official aircraft (several more are in the post), but with a Shapeways order pending and a couple of Red Eagle birds on my work bench I invested in some cases from KR while I was at Salute.
I think I am veering towards keeping the boxes in case I need to send the models on by post at a later date.
As others have hinted however, the issue of keeping them out of sight of “Er Indoors” is one that I will need to address

Mine all in the loft, waiting for the day of resale (which may be after my death).
Only the "windows" are saved and later reused sometimes for other modeling/gaming purposes; the boxes are being burnt in the fireplace, the inserts trashed.

The boxes fold down and the plastic trays of one particular aircraft, lets us say a DIII, stack into one another. Some trays can be stacked with trays from other planes, but it is a bit of a jigsaw. Not that I bother to do it, but it is a possible space saver. I actually dusted my planes last week (orders from above), which are all on display...they now glow in colour,...what a difference!! Blowing, was not enough, a soft cloth was best and a brush helped in doing the tricky bits. Anyway, you should see the dust on the empty boxes on the top shelf..do not tell the commander in chief...

I keep them, stored together in case of future need.
If nothing else, it will make it easier to sell them at the estate sale

I still store my planes in them.
I dump the boxes as all my "Toys" are for me and not for resale.Attachment 163616
For now, my planes are still in the boxes; eventually I'm on the Fox/Karl camp.

I don't see the point of owning a model which you don't get to look at and enjoy, keeping a plane in the box is better financially but, ask yourself a question why did you buy them, as an investment or to enjoy?
I seriously don't know why i'm keeping it.... they are all in big boxes in my garage..... I keep my planes in a transport bag....looking for the BF p.a.c.k. 1520 XL....
A little out of date now, but this is how I'm actually storing the planes.....
I used to throw the boxes out, but having had to thin my collection a couple of times, I now stash them so I have them if either I, or the inevitable one day estate sale, need them for shipping.
PM me John and let me know what you'd like.
Curently I store all my plane in their boxes but that are aboute to change when my hangertrays arrive.
What I will do with the boxes after that I really don't know. I'm a hoarder like you, Tim so it will be hard to throw them away but the Mrs back home may just want to have a say in the matter
