Thread: Altitude Strategy

    Default Altitude Strategy

I've just begun implementing the altitude rules.

For simple dog-fights (single-seat fighters versus single-seat fighters), is there any reason why everyone wouldn't be racing to be the plane with the highest altitude?

That was our experience: we all wanted the +1 attacking from above bonus, and didn't see any downside to out-climbing one another.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks!

You are correct, James. That is what happened in real life. Pilots tried to climb above the enemy.

The tradeoff is that some planes climb faster than others, and often you have other things to do (like maneuvering for a shot or racing to catch an opponent) so you can't or choose not to play a climb card.

It's also possible to escape an enemy if you have a higher max. ceiling than him!

on the other hand bombing from lower altitude gets progressively easier.

The main reason in a dogfight would be: You want to shoot the opponent down.

Climb as high as you want, as long as your target stays on a low level there is no fight.

If you use the zoom-dive houserule benig able to climb fast is a big bonus.
The zoom-dive us performed as a three-card maneuver. Dive-straight+a "non steep" bonuscard. The bonuscard gives you an extra card that turn that will give you a chance to a surpriseattack. Very usefull
