Thread: Russian WW1 Pilot Story

    Default Russian WW1 Pilot Story

I was just wibbling around the internet looking at early war aircraft and their paint schemes, and I found this image of a Morane N

    http://www.wwiaviation.com/russia1915.html (second one)

Then I found the photo on which it is clearly based here -

    http://www.wio.ru/ww1a/gal1.htm

This in turn lead me to an account of the life of the pilot of the said aircraft

    http://home1.stofanet.dk/smirnoff/Page1.html

Which I feel many would find interesting.

The Morane is probably a future project for me, simple and effective.

    Happy Landings

I'd be most surprised if Smirnof's wasn't one of the Morane N/G reprints.

Certainly a worthy subject - and he only died in 1956.

Read the whole story if you get chance, quite a life .....

Now, can I justify getting the whole squadron of 9 a/c shown in the photo .....

Of course, that will be 5 years down the road?

    Thumbs up

    Many thanks Peter!
That story on Smirnof was really interesting.
I wonder if he was related to the Smirnof brand of Vodka?

Just recently bought a sheet of Russian decals - I've got another few planes to try them on now.
    Thanks Pete!
