It's a recurring joke in auto-racing coverage on TV -- when a race runs into evening, the track lights might not be on, but the cameramen will have their lenses at WFO to gather in as much light as possible; so the announcers are having to explain "it's a lot darker out there than what you're seeing on TV".
I knew where you were coming from Chris. That was why I liked it so much.
We get exactly the same when they come off for bad light at cricket matches, and it looks like a summer afternoon on the screen. Then the commentator has to show a shot of how bright the lights on the scoreboard are to convince the viewers that the natural light is really that bad.
