    Default The sopwith Python

I was reading an old AAR and there was a picture of Nungesser in his shiny silvery N. 17.
There was a link to other pics of WW1 ACs.
And my Eyes fell on this beast.

    A Sopwtih Python.
Do anyone know more aboute this "machine"? It says under the picture that it was a structurally sound machine.
High maneuverable and armed with four belt fed vickers machine guns.
Two even found their way to the front.

I've seen a few threads about this design around the net before (one on here too, I'm sure), and the ones incorporating any research seem unable to find *any* corroboration of it actually existing. I believe that a talented artist (http://roen911.deviantart.com/art/Th...quot-274918497) (and 'drome member, so one could just ask) created the image and a bit of backstory, possibly for a game, and the internet being what it is, accepted it without question!

A give-away clue is here, extracted from the artist's description:
Placing the two poer plants becide each other counteracthed the problem of gyroscopic rotation that plagued the F1 "Camel".
Did one of the (surely identical) rotary engines rotate in the opposite direction?

The comment below the artist's description rather puts the final nail in the flying coffin:
Inspired from Robert Fitzgerald 's "revisionism" series.
It's an interesting idea but I have doubts, to put it very mildly!

I doubt that the central wings, only being made of wood and fabric, would be strong enough to stand the stresses of combat manoeuvres.
