Thread: Curse You, Red Baron!

  1. #1

    Default Curse You, Red Baron!

    http://www.amazon.it/Snoopy-lasso-gu...415/ref=sr_1_1

Price to Australia - $34 AUD for one, but $64 for four

    From Andrea:
The Italian publisher Salani does a box just a bit smaller than a Wings of Glory Airplane Pack, with the pre-assembled pre-painted figure and a 32 pages little booklet with Peanuts strips featuring Snoopy against the Red Baron (that I already had on several other books). 9.90 euros, I found it in a bookshop - it wasn't there a few days ago and they have plenty, so I think it's pretty new.
The (c) under the plastic figure is 2011. Produced in Asia.

You can find these little jems on ebay frequently. I bought one of these several months ago, just have not got around to mounting it on a stand yet.

Picked up several at Barnes and Noble Books last year for $5 for visitor gifts to our events, even the big kids like them!

As is usual... just under $7 for the item, over $25 for postage to Oz.

    That's USD - call it $38 AUD.

    Clipper, that's great indeed!!!

I too looked for something like that for so long.

Sorry for the card, I am not so good and I just used an old Paint program. By the way, I forgot the red dot at the center...

Great find, Zoe! I have been in the process of scratch-building/sculpting one for myself, albeit in a somewhat smaller scale. I will probably (slowly) continue that, but I have just ordered one of these little gems. Like you, I shall repaint it to be more 'historically' accurate. I love the airplane card, by the way! Is it in the Files section somewhere to print off?

    All the best,
    Matt

I think I'll pass on that one.

The $12.06 in Oz seems the best deal, the 4 from Italy for $64 a close second.

In any event... a great addition for demo/participation games.

    Thanks, too kind!

I can see why matt56 aimed at a smaller one, even if Clipper's seems quite similar in size to the commercial one.

This is a size comparison with another Sopwith Camel. When posed on the base, it fits with a plane at an altitude of a couple of pegs.

This brings to the issue on how to use the mini. The easiest is to glue a Wings of Glory peg at the center of its base. A drop of Superglue and it's done.

If you want it to be able to land it on the ground, you probably have to drill a hole at the center of the base and fit a pin inside the Wings of Glory peg, so that you can fit Snoopy's doghouse on it or remove it. Still to be studied.

Since the mini is pretty tall, if you do not use altitude rules you can even just pose it on the base, as in the picture above.

Love seeing all the pictures in the geeklist, Andrea! Thanks for linking them.

The last one (of the smaller Snoopy) is kind of what I'm aiming for size-wise on the one I started sculpting...seeing that one gives me hope that it can be done. I shall have to move it up the priority list

    All the best,
    Matt

In the end I drilled a hole at the bottom of the doghouse. The plastic is soft, a small cross-headed screwdriver has been enough. Then I glued the bases of two Wings of War/Glory pegs one against the other with Superglue, so to fit one end into the doghouse and the other in a Camel base, or in other pegs.

This could be replaced by fitting some sort of stick into the doghouse that would then fit into the peg too. The double-sided peg is maybe a bit too tall, but it is easier to fit and take away when you want to land.

This way I got a "personalization kit" for a Wings of War/Glory Camel that fits into the original Edizioni Salani pack.

Mine is one the way from the UK.

Amazon Ca - Peanuts: Snoopy the Flying Ace

The company is listed as: PaperbackshopCA

This implies that it is a Canadian company, but it is shipping from the UK. $2.10 Cdn, with $6.49 shipping.

I thought it was a bit smaller from some of the posted pictures, but it doesn't matter. Snoopy will be facing the Red Baron at InCONceivable in August!

Thanks for the tip, Zoe, and the mounting instructions, Andrea!

So I'm not convinced I want to pay $10 for this particular add-on when it's cheaper even with postage:

Yes you did thank you very much, and I proudly and carefully transported it back home across the pond. Good to see everyone getting in on the fun.

That's awesome. I've had one of these for about a year. I'd love to get a smaller one closer in scale to throw in a game with proper cards. Ares, look into the license!

    Fellow pilots

My 17p Amazon bargain arrived this morning,
off to base snoopy and make the associated card...

if enough of us chaps have one perhaps we could put on an 'alternative flight'
at a participation / demo show this year ?

Bit of fun and the younger people at the show might like a laugh!

    My Snoopy arrived today!

Had I not already ordered one, I would have gotten one from the Kickstarter extravaganza. To my mind, he's such a 'modern' pop icon of the WWI 'scene' that he belongs in every enthusiast's collection (particularly if you're a fan of the Entente).

I saw a double deck of playing cards today at a used book store that featured the Peanuts crowd from "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and I should have picked them up - I'll probably go back tomorrow and hope they're still there (they weren't expensive by any means) - Snoopy is in his World War One Flying Ace outfit, sitting on his doghouse, and the card is the Ace of Hearts - it looks awesome!

    All the best,
    Matt
