Just come across this thread and awarded you a Rep Point Scott for compiling it (enjoy )

Somebody needs to do something similar for Wings of War / Glory WW2 or WGS to compliment this outstanding piece of research. Not long ago I commented in another thread about the maturity / quality of postings and threads found here on the Aerodrome in comparison with other forums (PC gaming forums in particular) and the sometimes diatribe-like offerings they have to their credit ...

Karma: Then having never seen this before I come across this Tactical Walkthrough an hour or so later: Could not leave this without awarding a Rep Point to it's Creator

Just a thought ... Relating to an overview of most of the Wings of War / all of the Wings of Glory WW2 or WGS aircraft types which are available try the following:

    http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...uits-and-Bumps

The one thing which this thread does not do is provide such a comprehensively compact guide to the aircraft types which are available but it does over time detail their strengths and weaknesses. Like this thread it was created with learners and FNPs (Fairly New Players) in mind. Circuits and Bumps travels through a learner player's experience of both Wings of Glory WW2 / WGS and collecting the required to play delving into the world of Nexus Games for Wings of War WW2 / WGS along the way. This was posted in response to a few requests for a WW2 equivalent to Scott's work ... So back on topic we now go.

Once again this is an outstanding piece of research which I will bookmark ready for the next opportunity I have to cross over to WW1 instead of WW2 and a spot of WGF as the result ...

There is now much scope for bringing this thread up to date with all the newer planes and also introducing climb rates into the discussion.

As Scott's not updated it in four and a half years you might have volunteered yourself for a job there David...!

An Updated Tactical Walk Through of Scouts

Well I've had some time since and came up with this to add to the pile:

    Fokker E.III - T Deck
    Strengths - None
Weaknesses - Fragile, Slow, Rubbish climber, B gun
    Users - Central Powers

This is a fragile monoplane aircraft with 11 damage points and a rubbish climb rate of 6 with a ceiling of 9. The T deck has the same basic moves as the A,S & V decks just slower than them all. It can stand up for itself in the early war mix if flown with care or flair - It is after all, the Fokker scourge !!

    Halberstadt D.III - P Deck
Strengths - Robust, Broad right side slip
Weaknesses - Slow, Slow climber, B Gun
    Users - Central Powers

A robust performer with 14 damage points but suffers from slow speed and a slow climb rate of 4 with a ceiling of 9. The P deck trades a standard side slip each way for a broad side slip each way - of little help but the robustness of this crate should see you through.

    Airco DH.2 - P Deck
Strengths - Fairly Robust, Broad right side slip,
Weaknesses - Slow, Rubbish climber, B Gun
    Users - Entente

A fairly robust 'pusher' kite with 13 damage points, slow with a rubbish climb rate of 6 and ceiling of 10. The P deck trades a standard side slip each way for a broad side slip each way - of little help but the robustness of this crate compares well against some earlier types.

    Nieuport16 - R Deck
Strengths - Fast climber, Good ceiling
Weaknesses - Frail, Slow, No special moves, B gun
    Users - Entente

With only 10 damage points this aircraft is frail in the greater scheme of things but is there, or, thereabouts amongst its contemporaries and has a great climb rate of 2 with a ceiling of 12. The R deck has the same basic moves as the B & J decks just slower than both - used properly it can stand up for itself in the early war mix.

    Morane Saulnier N - T Deck
    Strengths - None
Weaknesses - Frail, Slow, Poor climber, B gun
    Users - Entente

This is another frail monoplane type with just 10 damage points and not helped by its poor climb rate of 5 with a ceiling of 9. The T deck has the same basic moves as the A,S & V decks just slower than them all - It can stand up for itself in the early war mix if flown with care... just don't expect too much.

    Albatros D.II - V Deck
Strengths - Robust, Average speed, A Guns
Weaknesses - Poor climber; the B Gun variant
    Users - Central Powers

This type is very similar to the Alb D.III with its 14 damage points and should be flown in the same manner, it usually out guns its Entente enemy but with a climb rate of 5 it can't climb for toffee ! Ceiling of 11.

    Albatros D.III - J Deck
    Strengths - Robust, A guns
Weaknesses - No special manoeuvres, Average speed, Slow climber
    Users - Central Powers

With no special manoeuvres, average speed and a climb rate of 4 with a ceiling of 12 this is a pretty average aircraft but with 14 damage points it's quite robust and it is this coupled with its A guns that will carry it through against most of its Entente contemporaries

    Nieuport 17/23 - I Deck
Strengths - Good climber; Short wide side-slip manoeuvre, A gun
Weaknesses - Weak airframe, Average speed; B Gun variants, Short wide side-slip manoeuvre is steep
    Users - Entente

With just 12 damage points this is a weak aircraft with a climb rate of 3 and ceiling of 12 so you have to use it with care and pick your moment but some, as seen in history, can be very successful so dismiss it at your peril.

    Spad VII - B Deck
Strengths - Tough, Fast, Fast climber
Weaknesses - No special manoeuvres, B Guns
    Users - Entente

A solid little crate with 15 damage points, a climb rate of 2 and ceiling of 14, it's more than a match for its Central Powers contemporaries, use in a similar way to the Spad XIII though the B gun may not always reap the rewards you wish for !

    Sopwith Triplane - U Deck
Strengths - Fairly Robust, Fast, Two 90 degree right turns, L/R short wide side slips (steep) good climber, A Guns
Weaknesses - B Gun variant (most common configuration)
    Users - Entente

Not the strongest with 13 damage points though a good climb rate of 3 with a ceiling of 14. This is offset by the U deck - a fast version of the D deck - so this aircraft has the advantages of the Fokker Dr.1 manoeuvre wise but with the speed to back it up. It is an excellent dog fighter in the right hands the only downside possibly being the B gun variant.

    Albatros D.Va- B Deck
Strengths - Fast, Tough; A guns
Weaknesses - no special manoeuvres; slow climber
    Users - Central Powers

This is a fast, tough aircraft with 15 damage points but it has no special manoeuvres and a slow climb rate of 4 with a ceiling of 14. Essentially a slightly stronger and faster version of the D.III that uses the same basic manoeuvres - use the extra speed to your advantage to catch or out run your foe !

    Spad XIII - A Deck
Strengths - Very fast, Tough, Fast climber, A guns
    Weaknesses - no special manoeuvres;
    Users - Entente

One of the fastest but least manoeuvrable aircraft out there, it can out run or run down anything the Germans have, it is also a top climber with a climb rate of 2 and ceiling of 15. Use the hit and run tactic with this plane; use the Immelmann to quickly reverse direction and use the stall to keep on target before powering away.

    Sopwith Camel - C Deck
Strengths - Fast, Tough, Good climber, Three 90 degree right turns, A guns
    Weakness - No 90 left.
    Users - Entente

This was one of Britain's best, a fast, tough fighter with 15 damage points and a climb rate of 3, the three 90 degree right turns can give it distinct advantages in a turning fight so watch your approach when flying with it or against it !

    R.A.F. SE5a - N Deck
Strengths - Very fast, Tough, Fast climber, L/R 90 degree turns, Short wide sideslips, A Guns
Weakness - 90 degree turns & Short wide side slips are 'steep', a B gun variant
    Users - Entente

One of the two fastest aircraft in the game and very durable with 16 damage points and a climb rate of 2 with a ceiling of 14. Suffers from having only single 90 turns and that they, and the wide side slips, are steeps but with good planning it can prove deadly.

    Fokker Dr.I - D Deck
Strengths - Two 90 degree right turns, Short wide side-slip, Fast climber, A guns
Weaknesses - Weak compared to contemporaries, Average speed,
    Users - Central Powers

Fairly robust with 13 damage points and a fast climber with a climb rate of 2 and ceiling of 14 - this is a nimble dog fighter but suffers greatly for its comparatively slow speed and low strength against the stronger, faster enemy aircraft it could come up against.

    Pfalz D.III/D.IIIa - J Deck
Strength - Tough, good climber, A Guns
Weakness - No special manoeuvres, Average speed
    Users - Central Powers

This is a tough bird with 16 damage points and a climb rate of 3 with a ceiling of 12 or 13 for the D.IIIa - it's another that suffers for having a comparatively low speed and no special manoeuvres but be creative and you may surprise a few !

    Hanriot HD.1 - F Deck
Strengths - Robust, Fast, L&R 90 turns, L&R short wide side slips, Average climber, A guns
Weaknesses - Short wide side slips are steeps, B Gun variant
    Users - Entente

This is a fast moving manoeuvrable aircraft that should be able to take on most Central Powers types on more than an even footing - it has 14 hit points, a climb rate of 3 with a ceiling of 14, tight turns each way and short wide side slips to help out in a dog fight - only slight downside is some were B guns !

    Maachi M5 - Q Deck
Strengths - Tough, Fast, Good climber, L/R 90 degree turns, A Guns
Weaknesses - Tight turns are steep
Users - Entente & Central Powers

This flying boat is another tough kite with 15 damage points, it has a climb rate of 3 with a ceiling of 14 and the manoeuvrability to put up a decent fight - not as frail or as easy as it looks - a pusher not a push over !

    Aviatik D.I - Q Deck
Strengths - Robust, Fast, L/R 90 degree turns, Fast climber, A Guns
Weaknesses - Tight turns are steep, The B Gun variant
    Users - Central Powers

A good performer with 14 damage points, a climb rate of 2 with a ceiling of 14 and with a tight turn either way that can really help in a dogfight. It will need it up against the HD.1 & Camels over the Italian front !

    Siemens Schuckert D.III - O Deck
Strengths - Robust, Fast, Two L/R 90 degree turns, L/R short wide side slips, Fast climber
Weaknesses - Short wide side slips are steep,
    Users - Central Powers

A fast interceptor with 14 damage points, a climb rate of 2 with a ceiling of 17, very manoeuvrable, the pairs of tight turns either way make this a nimble dog-fighter and one to be wary of.

    Nieuport 28 - F Deck
Strengths - Robust, Fast, L&R 90 turns, L&R short wide side slips, Fast climber, A guns
Weaknesses - Short wide side slips are steeps.
    Users - Entente

This is a fast moving manoeuvrable aircraft with 14 damage points, a climb rate of 2 with a ceiling of 13 that should be able to take on most Central Powers types, its tight turns each way and short wide sides lips will help greatly in dog fights.

    Fokker D.VII- L Deck
Strengths - Tough, Fast, Fast climber, Short straight, Short turns, 90 degree turns left & right.
    Weakness - none
    Users - Central Powers

Arguably best German fighter of the war and the game; fast moving with 16 damage points, a climb rate of 2 with a ceiling of 15 and unique manoeuvres that make this a tricky opponent in anybody's hands.

    Fokker E.V - F Deck
Strengths - Tough, Fast, L&R 90 turns, L&R short wide side slips, Fast climber, A guns
Weaknesses - Short wide side slips are steep.
    Users - Central Powers

This is a fast, tough, manoeuvrable monoplane with 15 damage points and a climb rate of 2 with a ceiling of 14 that should be able to take on most Entente types on a fairly even footing, its tight turns each way and short wide sides lips will help greatly in dog fights.

    Sopwith Snipe - M Deck
Strengths - Tough, Fast, L&R 90 degree turns, Short wide side slips
Weakness - Wide side slips are 'steep'
    Users - Entente

A fast, tough, agile fighter with 16 damage points, a climb rate of 2 with a ceiling of 13 and arguably the Ententes best. An improvement on the camel with 90 degree turns left and right, and the wide side slips, in a two to one right hand bias - an answer to match the dominance of the Fokker D.VII.

These are the scouts, the fighters, buy them, fly them, love them !
Just remember, you can be as tactical as you like but if the cards don't fall for you...well, c'est le Guerre !

Off on Hols soon so haven't time for two-seater evals but will have a stab at them in due course if people would like that too ?!

An Up To Date Tactical Walk Through of Two-Seaters

No-one has asked but here are my thoughts on two-seaters anyway !

    Roland C.II - K Deck
Strengths - Average speed, Tough, Rear gun has 360 arc at targets above and near that at same level.
Weakness - Single gunned variant, Rubbish climber
    Users - Central Powers

Although average speed in the general scheme of things this early war type was the fastest thing in the air in its day and coupled with its 15 damage points, and 'that rear gun', this can be one tough nut to crack when used in a historical context... or anytime in my experience ! Treat it with caution if up against it, use it as an escort fighter if not - its only weakness is it has a rubbish climb rate of 6 with a ceiling of 9 and some versions have no front gun.

    RAF RE8 - K Deck
Strengths - Average speed, Fairly Robust,
Weakness - Rubbish climber, No Immelmann
    Users - Entente

Much maligned by history this is a must have aircraft for your inventory if you want a victim !
The 'Harry Tate' was a mainstay for the British throughout much of the war, it's fairly robust with 13 damage points but has a rubbish climb rate of 6 and a ceiling of 10; suffers particularly in later war scenarios where the faster & stronger enemy aircraft can pretty much have their way with it !

    Rumpler C.IV C - K Deck
    Strengths - Tough, Good climber
Weakness - Average speed, No Immelmann
    Users - Central Powers

This is a high flying tough aircraft with 15 damage points and a rate of climb of 3 with a ceiling of 14. The only thing that lets it down is its average speed but in game terms that's not a bad thing 'cos you can catch it !

    Airco DH4 - H Deck
Strengths - Tough, Fast climber, Up-gunned variants
    Weakness - No Immelmann
    Users - Entente / US

This is a fast tough opponent with 15 damage points and an terrific climb rate of 2 with a ceiling of 15 that comes in a number of variants with different gun combinations fore and aft - historically it didn't need escorts, that should tell you all you need but if further hints required once you drop your eggs use it as a scout !

    Breguet Br14 B2 - K Deck
Strengths - Beyond tough, Good climber, Up-gunned Variants
Weakness - Average speed, No Immelmann.
    Users - Entente / US

This is a fast rudely tough opponent with 17 damage points and a good climb rate of 3 with a ceiling of 12. It's another that comes in a number of variants with different gun combinations fore and aft so choose wisely; about the only thing that lets it down is its average speed but, again, in game terms that's not a bad thing 'cos you can catch it !

    Halberstadt CL.II - V Deck
    Strengths - Tough, Immelmann
Weakness - Average speed, Poor climber, B guns
    Users - Central Powers

This is a tough type with 16 damage points and one of the few two-seaters that has the advantage of being able to perform the Immelmann turn. Put that to good use when you can as it can't out run the later British scouts or climb out of trouble with its poor climb rate of 5 and ceiling of 12 !

    Bristol Fighter F2B - S Deck
Strengths - Tough, Fast, Good climber, Immelmann,
    Weakness - No sharp turns
    Users - Entente

This is a fast, tough opponent with 16 damage points and a good climb rate of 3 with a ceiling of 14. It's another that can Immelmann and also comes in a number of variants with different gun combinations fore and aft so choose wisely. Not much lets it down and the clue is in its title - 'fighter' - use it as such and you won't go far wrong.

    Hannover C.IIIa - W Deck
Strengths - Tough, Immelmann, L&R 90 deg turns
Weakness - Avereage Speed, Slow climber, B Guns
    Users - Central Powers

This is a tough yet surprisingly agile type with 1x left and right 90 degree and Immelmann turns - treat it with caution if attacking one or it will tear you a new one ! If you're piloting one use those moves to your full advantage to slip your attackers and let your gunner have his head.
Let down by its average speed (though good for the game) and its slow climb rate of 4; it has a ceiling of 15.

These two seater models are invaluable to making up interesting scenarios so if you don't have any - get some !
