Thread: Bristol Blenheim MK IV to MK I Conversion 1/200 scale

Default Bristol Blenheim MK IV to MK I Conversion 1/200 scale

The box arrived today and the elves wasted no time opening it and getting going on the conversion. First a scale drawing was produced with the glazed nose details. A wad of "green stuff" was prepared and the nose of the original model chopped off even with the wing joint.

Then a bit of sketching on the drawing for cutting guides whilst the green stuff hardened . . .

Initial carving while the green goober was easy to carve . . .

Pine wood Derby car under construction - hey wait! Wrong thread - two timing elves!

    That's better!

Now we must wait like good elves for the arrival of morning and the curing of things green . . . a Monkee mobile pine car? Are you guys crazy?

Perhaps a Davy Jones Monkees-Blenhiem is in the works?? Hey, hey, it's a possibility?!

Your conversion is looking good, David! It's neat to see you working with a plastic kit turning it into your master for your mold.

    All the best,
    Matt

Great work as usual, looking forward to the final painted job.

Well that was a surprise Dave.
Would me mind asking the reason for the green stuff in the slot for the wing root?

The green goober stuff filled the wing gaps, that is all. Here is the green plug in place on the truncated fuselage after initial carving

    Further carving and sanding

Green plug carefully removed from the fuselage

Fuselage without plug, you can see the plan take shape, I will cast the new nose plug from clear resin and simply add it to the kit fuselage, then finish the model as a MK I, simple and easy!

The finished new nose mold is given several coats of gloss clear to insure a smooth and clear nose, so far the plan . . .

Here is stage two, clear resin and molding clay

Now where are those casting elves?

I do like your use of clear casting resin for the front. I was looking for a use for my clear resin. I used to use it for rivers until it got too expensive.

I'm loving 'watching' your in-process shots here, Dave! The clear resin idea is masterful, although painting the frame on the nose is going to be a challenge - but I'm sure it's nothing elves can't handle!

    All the best,
    Matt
