Flash joined the Tunbridge Wells crew for another in our ongoing "stop the Gotha raid on Ashford" games.
Flash flew a Spad XII which the French had loaned to the RFC for testing and evaluation. We learned a number of things about this awesome machine
The 37mm cannon is very effective!
But you don't really need it, as the ranging MG is quite effective
All of which means that Flash now has the nickname "Boom Boom"
Other pilots were so dedicated that they destroyed themselves and a Gotha by ramming it!
This probably happened because the pilot of the Gotha had just been killed by a burst of fire
The pilot of the ramming plane was heard demanding a VC for his exploits
Of course, it didn't all go the defenders' way. Ashford was bombed again
At least this time it was the Ashford Womens' Auxiliary Ballon Corps HQ that was hit - the town was spared another shower of undergarments as it wasn't a wash day
Some pilots also learned not to fly between Gothas
And the Gotha gunners were quite accurate
We had great fun, and the seven Gothas in the raid were all shot down - although it cost us seven defenders downed, and one direct hit on Ashford.
