Thread: Just opened up a trunk...

Default Just opened up a trunk...

One that hadn't been opened for 70 years, helping tidy up my in-laws house next door, taking stock.

My partner's Great Uncle was apparently a rear gunner on a Lanc in 1944. His F/O uniform with AG wing was the first thing I saw, in pristine condition.

What a lovely discovery, Zoe. Such an unexpected find for someone who loves aviation history as you do is quite wonderful. What a great family connection. You'll have to let us know more about him as you discover things. Happy tidying!

    All the best,

What a find. At least it is the hands of someone who has knowledge of what it means to some people.

How sweet is that! And as you said, the blouse is in wonderful condition - and the single 'ring' around the cuffs really pops. And his trunk is marked, too. It will be exciting to learn what you learn.

    All the best,

That is an exciting find. What does the note inside the helmet say?

It's a note from the Wagga Wagga Ladies Auxiliary that came with a comfort/amenities package. There's a box of chocolates nearby we haven't opened. Hopefully not with the original contents.

I'm getting a friend of a friend in the SCA who's a military museum conservator to have a look at the trove soon.

One could get you two - My cousin traded his single AG for a pair raiding Lorient U boat pens Chris as did the rest of his crew.

Just found a respirator (gas mask). Smelling of camphor, but the rubber isn't perished, it's as new.

And a pack nearby turned out to have a parachute in. Probably cargo. No harness, just the canopy. Amazing that such a large area of silk could fit in such a small volume.

I wonder if the silk was a present for a certain someone or just a souvenir of his service? I look forward to the other things you discover about him.

    All the best,
