Anyone knows what type of painting is used on minis? I’m wondering if WW2 minis are painted with acrylics.

I’m repainting a P-40 as a winter cammo Soviet version. So I began painting the mini with a good-old flat brush using flat white Tamiya acrylics. I didn’t like the result, decided I would air-brush instead. I decided to remove white painting by rubbing the mini with ethylic alcohol (basic acrylic paint remover). So I start rubbing… acrylic painting come out really well, but for my surprise I then realized that by rubbing harder I begun to remove the decals too… rubbing even harder and original painting begun to come out too.

Then I took a Zero I also want to re-paint, rubbed with alcohol and decals and base color came out too.

Have anyone else experienced the same? What about WW1 minis? I’m pretty sure alcohol won’t remove decals nor painting on them? Or am I wrong?
