This game was played at the Williamsburg Muster 2015
Manchuria 1939 was modeled during after the initial combat in which the Soviets did badly with green pilots in old planes. Moscow rushed experienced pilots and newer planes to meet the IJA veteran pilots.
Set up map flat grass waste land, with two Russian airfields.
Forces Russian: two I-15`s and two I-16 model 5 placed over their own airfields.
Japanese: Two Nell bombers escorted by by four Nates. They set up two firing sticks away from airfield.
At the start one Nell went for each airfield, they were escorted by two Nates each. From the start the Russians went after the right hand Nell flown by BobP. I was on the left and left alone. My Nell attacked and did no damage to the target. It was back to the barn for me. The Nate escorts headed for the fight around Bob`s Nell! One Nate was already down and the Russians kept hounding Bob`s Nell! The Nell was eventually shot down short of it`s target in exchange for a I-15. The Nates put up a struggle but it was the Russians day in the sun.
Wrap up. The Nates with their light armaments was no match for the I-16`s and I-15`s! We played the game in under two hours and it lasted 15 turns. We had three veteran players two new players to the WW2 game and one first time player. The game played fast and was fun!
Rich
