"Wednesday Night Dogfights!" have, due to scheduling become Tuesday Night Dogfights...
Only had time for one quick scenario and, as this was my son's first ever game , I was only able to snap a couple of pictures... and in pretty poor light.
We wanted to play an intercept, but didn't really care who was intercepting whom... so we randomly selected the target side (low damage card draw), and then used Charlie3's Random Placement Diagram (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/dow...o=file&id=197) to generate the location of the intercepting scouts. We determined that the "bounced" flight would become aware of the trailing aircraft once fired upon, or as the result a of higher damage card draw.
High damage card, again, placed the DH.2s within 1 ruler of the unsuspecting Albatros D.IIs... and the game was afoot!
Bounced by DH.2s!
Inexperienced and impatient, The pilot of the lead DH.2 snapped off a long-range burst from his Lewis gun... which served only to announce his presence! Breaking formation and reversing course to engage the trailing English scouts, the power of the German scouts became quickly apparent. Despite 3:2 odds, the English found themselves outgunned and soon-to-be out maneuvered! Only precision, long-range gunnery from the junior member of the flight turns the tables once more in favor of the RFC.
First Victory!
At this point the surviving German pilot, who most certainly had his wind up, chose discretion over valor and made to extend an escape. A second feat of precision long-range gunnery (this time by two converging DH.2s) sent the remaining Albatros spinning out of control, aflame, and its pilot wounded.
--------------------------------------------------------------
This was a good, quick, vicious little fight. Played, for the most part, within the confines of a single map, the RFC took advantage of a favorable position and took it to the Luftstreitskräfte. As for my son? Although he didn't fly completely solo, he's hooked... and already asking about the next game. Guess that's what scoring 1.5 victories on your first sortie will do for you.
